Just back from my interview this morning. Horrible walk for half an hour along a busy road full of industrial estates and huge lorries! The actual interview was pointless, the guy had no idea what he wanted to ask or know. He even said "we don't know what we want from someone". He asked what salary I've been looking for and when I told him he said "Well we pay what we think we should, not what you ask for". So why ask me! Although I think he has forgotten they listed the salary on the advert for the job ;)

On my way home I got a call for another interview on Tues, that one will only be a 15 min walk, very low pay though.

I'm getting interview after interview but no further. I'm just getting bored with them now which probably shows, need to step it up.

Last day of my temp work today so I'm hoping for some good news, oh please give me good news!

This sounds like my recent experience. Two weeks ago a went for an interview. I was interviewed by one person who hadn't prepared any questions and admitted he'd never interviewed before. I asked all the questions I wanted answering and the interview was over in 15 minutes. Last week Friday came and I resigned myself to the fact that I hadn't got it when they rang asking me back for interview on Tuesday this week. I turned up, the person who interviewed me the previous time was there, along with another person. They still hadn't prepared any questions and the new person confessed he hadn't even read my CV. As I had asked all my questions the previous time I didn't have anything to say and this interview lasted about 10 minutes! I was quite embarrassed when I came out!

Also I applied for a job with a healthcare insurance firm. The advert stated the salary and one of the first questions on the online application form was "what salary do you require".

I'm losing the will to live this week.
  • Wouldn't Dear Sir or Madam be more appropriate?

Back at school (circa 1988) we were taught to always put 'Dear Sir', never 'Dear Sir or Madam or Dear Sir/Madam'. Things might have changed but this has stuck with me and I never add the Madam!

Just asked my husband what he would do and he's also a 'Dear Sir'. I've also just had a look at an etiquette website and that says when writing a business letter (which I class a covering letter for a job to be) you should never use 'Dear Sir or Madam'.

Of course it's up to the individual but as far as I can see, the correct etiquette does still seem to be just 'Dear Sir'.

    Hi All

Ive been looking for a full time job as part time and contract working at the moment. Hubby is SE and work is a lot slower thian it was, so he has agreed that he will look after kids after school if I get a FT job.

I have been really luckly and got an interview for a job that I would be really good at - FT and salary up to £23k, so more than double that I am on now. I have to do a presentation at the interview, and unisghted task (???) and then MAY be called back for an interview later in the day... Not even sure what all of that means in terms of what they are looking for!!

Gonna put my heart & Soul into getting this job and have already talked to a couple of people who work in a similar role and they have been really helpful. Have 2-3 more people who I can get to help and input suggestions intpo my presentation so I know I eally have done the best I can. it's heartbreaking to see how hard hubby and me are both working, to just about cover bills and debts and family commitments - so I really NEED and WANT to get this job!

Please send me good vibes, inteview is in 2 weeks time.

I really wish every one good luck in their job hunting - things sometimes just come together, when you least expect it, so please keep applying and trying....

Good luck, and hope all goes well, just show them what they're missing out on.
  • Right, that's me done for today.

Hope everyone has a good weekend - we're treating ourselves to an afternoon out in Leeds today, I've been looking forward to it all week.

    Lucky!!!

Love Leeds - Best Market in the country by far. I go whenever possible as some of the bargains are amazing. In fact it is the only times when I get to eat properly is after going there.

If I was a woman and received a letter addressed to Dear Sir, I'd be quite put off by the applicant. It is a bit sexist to assume that the person in charge of hiring would be a man.

I agree, I've always been taught to put Dear Sir/Madam. If I know the surname I put Ms/Mr whoever.

Not posted for a while. This week has been rubbish on the job front. 3 jobs applied for all week, but in last week there was loads advertised so can't complain.

I got a rejection email from a job earlier this week. I had spent three days on the application, and collected the form in person so I could have a chat, so was a bit gutted to not even get an interview. I sent them an email thanking them for telling me as many don't and asking for feedback. They actually replied! First bit of application feedback I have had in 6 months. Turns out 70 people applied, and as a graduate with no experience I never stood a chance.

I'm a bit annoyed with Hays today. They got my hopes up about a job back in March, which got put back to May. I've registerered with them and had a good chat about what I was looking for. I've been emailing weekly with no response, and today the perfect vacancy has been put up by the recruiter. I thought the idea of registering was so they could put you forward for vacancies? I've applied any way, bet I get no response.

I'm hoping to start a cleaning job next month which will last til September time. Better than nothing and at least I will have money coming in whilst looking and won't have to go to the Job Centre. Just hope everything goes to plan with it!

I'm having a really horrid afternoon. I've had to speak to my mortgage company about my awful financial situation. The girl on the other end was really nice which probably made me feel even more upset. Anyway, I have to get loads of information together this weekend about all my outgoings/other debts and call her back on Tuesday and then they can see what they can do. Having said that, they can't do anything about the payment due in early June! It's my fault, I was naively optimistic and hoped it wouldn't come to this. How stupid was I?

I've now got a thumping headache, red swollen eyes and feeling particularly sorry for myself.

It's a good job Beachy Head is so far away!
