Well what a pile of pants. Absolutely nothing new added to sites today for local jobs. Grr.

I am in a similar position with a company. Applied for a job with them a few months ago and heard nothing back. Applied for a job with them through an agency and heard nothing back (though that is probably because Hays are poo!). Sent a spec letter with my CV and heard nothing back. They're advertising again at the moment and I spent all day on the application yesterday but this is going to be my last try. If I don't get a response this time I am obviously not what they want!

Don't give up! I applied for 7 jobs with Birmingham Uni - the first five were unsuccessful, one is still pending and I finally have an interview for the other one. Just keep going over your application to see what you can improve upon. Of course it depends how much you want to work there, I only kept applying and applying with Bham Uni because I really want a job in a university!

I got a call with a job offer today, so I am happy, but they haven't decided on a start date though, so not quite the time for celebration yet! I have to go into the agency on Thursday to officially register so I'll be all set when they do decide they want me!

It's only p/t temporary though, so I'll still be looking for permanent work. I just hope I can still make it to my interview at the uni!

What a nice bunch you are!!

I had a call from an agency earlier to say I've got an interview for a maternity cover job on Friday:j. It's a shame it's about 40 miles away and nowhere near a railway station but I suppose beggars can't be choosers!

I've had 3 interviews during this stint of unemployment and they've all been competency-based ones and, tbh, I've struggled and the feedback has been that I've not answered some of the questions in enough depth. I'm really struggling with the 'tell me about a time when you've had to deal with stress in the workplace' and 'give me an example of how you've had to deal with a high workload and how you have prioritised'. The thing is for the past couple of years or so I've had various temp jobs where, tbh, I've been bored stiff most of the time and the only stress I've had is dealing with the boredom. I'm finding it hard to cast my mind back into the dim and distant past and remember when I had what I would call a 'proper' job that kept me busy and fulfilled!

Perhaps I'm going to have to make some scenarios up?

Oh and it's PA-type roles that I'm looking for.

    Hiya Nessi,

If these are the kind of questions that keep coming up, it would be a good idea to write some of them down and come up with good answers for them beforehand, I'm sure there's websites that give you example answers for that kind of question.

    Good luck,

  • Hello all!

I've just applied for a part time office manager job. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much I can apply for today :( I shall keep trawling though.

I've got an advisor interview at the JCP tomorrow - I always dread these even though I am not actually receiving any money in benefit, I just get my NI paid. I still have to go in every six weeks yet my husband hasn't been for one of these for 12 weeks now, it seems to be dependent on the actual advisor as to how often they haul you in, most peculiar!

I just want to get this off my chest. My b/f had a work trial and was told -- most categorically - by the owner of the business that there was absolutely no chance of any more pay being offered other than what she was offering. She simply could not afford to pay more, and that was an end of it. The best she could possibly offer was that his pay would be reviewed in 18 months time, and IF (a big IF) a raise was justified, she would only be able to manage another £1,500 tops. She also told him that she had several other applicants for the job, using this to chivvy him along in making a decision whether to take the job or not.

He turned it down, and within a few hours she had re-advertised the job with the agency, offering £2,000 more per annum than the supposedly "absolute" max she could pay my b/f.

The first mystery is, when he declined to take the job, why didn't she offer him the £2,000 more? The second mystery is, what happened to all those "other applicants" she claimed were eager to jump into the job?

I told my b/f to contact her saying that now another £2,000 was on the table, he'd take the job, but he said he could never work for someone he cannot trust. And as she is clearly a liar, he does not trust her.

Just been told that the job I had the guaranteed interview for has been given to someone else. There were supposed to be two of us being interviewed but in the end they selected the other one on the basis of his/her CV.

Rejection just feels harder instead of easier. I've never known anything but debt and poverty. Never had anything I wanted in life come right. I'm just struggling to see the point in carrying on right now. No one wants to hire me or be with me or give me any kind of chance, I have no point.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

    Afternoon everyone and welcome Nessi,

Fiefly I am sorry you did not get the job yesterday I too got asked "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I did not have much of an answer was not expecting that one for a part time job. Anyway I just responded in a admin positon still, working hard for a company that appreciates me. Regarding your degree, I too was debating removing my degree for some job applications but I never. If you do I would leave it on for the band 3 jobs.

Well everyone I have had some good news today, I got the position for the Physiotherapy admin today. I am made up, will be working 2.5 days so great for child care, the hospital is in walking distance so can walk there everyday. I must admit the money is not great and a lot less then I have been used to. But it is a way in isn't it, a way forward. I will certainly be celebrating this weekend.

I am still going for the band 3 interview tomorrow, although if I got offered that one it would be a dilemma. More money, although more hours, would have to drive there, would be more stessed out in the mornings getting kids to school and picking them up.

Thoughts on this one, would you go for money, or nice easy local job?

Thanks to everyone for your support, and to all those feeling down today I know exactly how you feel. Believe me I spent a few days upset thinking why am I not worthy of even a response. The right job will come along for everyone and all your hard work will pay off.

Saturnalia Try not to feel too down, we all have days were we are feeling like there is no end in sight but you just have to try and be positive, I'm sure that tomorrow you we feel better than you do right now. Why not have a few hours off from searching and go and have some time to yourself
