    Hi Guys

I've only just found this forum even though I've been out of work for 7 weeks now. It's good to hear from other people going through the same worries and emotions. I've only got one other friend who has experience of what I'm going through and the others have absolutely no idea (lucky them!!).

Like others on here I feel guilty when I'm not on the PC looking over and over at the same ads. Sometimes I feel quite positive but other times I feel really, really panicky about it all (feeling quite panicky right now tbh).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to logging onto the forum every day, hearing of the success stories and getting and giving support until my own success story comes along.

    Welcome Nessi :-)

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?
  • Welcome Nessi:D I've gone through all sorts of feelings - positive, negative, completely fed up, enthsiastic etc

I've got a second interview today and they are only interviewing two candidates (eeek!). The problem is that the job is on an industrial estate in the middle of nowhere and I'll need a car to get me there. Bank of Mum has offered to lend me some money towards it and I've been looking at little, economical cars and got myself completely confused! I wish my life was simple like the old days.

(It also doesn't do a lot for your self esteem when you are 45 years old and still relying on Bank of Mum!)

Good Morning Everyone! (and welcome to Nessi)

I went for the interview yesterday and it felt like a complete waste of time! They mostly talked about what the other person used to do and how much they regret that she was leaving. It was absolute chaos in there as well! I don't think that my organised mind could cope in a place like that. Oh well, never mind!

I emailed the manager who interviewed me last week asking for an update on my application so hopefully she will get back to me today. It seems like these interviews are like buses nothing for ages and then they all come along at once. Hoping the bus stops here again soon! :D

Got 15 things to go through on my job description for tomorrow, not really feeling it today. I was supposed to have a phone interview at the last minute yesterday that never happened, so I think it broke my concentration. Onwards and upwards.

I am in a similar position with a company. Applied for a job with them a few months ago and heard nothing back. Applied for a job with them through an agency and heard nothing back (though that is probably because Hays are poo!). Sent a spec letter with my CV and heard nothing back. They're advertising again at the moment and I spent all day on the application yesterday but this is going to be my last try. If I don't get a response this time I am obviously not what they want!

Got a feeling this week is going to be a bit slow on the job front. There was pretty much nothing yesterday, and nothing at all so far today.

A lot of the vacancies I've applied for recently are closing this week so hopefully I may hear something soon.

I have done this and had to walk away. In my case I think they did a lot of internal transfers and you really had to know someone. I identified who I would have to befriend, but it just seemed silly (and stalkerish) by then!

Another recruiter said it was just like dating the other day, I bit my tongue before I said that at least then I could get them drunk.

Ugh, I have gone through the job description to the point of being bored with it! Now to collate all my bits and pieces...

Good morning everyone! Welcome Nessi :)

I didn't get the NHS receptionist job yesterday :( This time though I've taken it to heart, I've had time to brew but I'm still annoyed and disappointed. Interview could have gone better, but I think I coped well considering I didn't like the questions.... plus I managed to stretch the interview to 45 mins which is an achievement itself (a new game I'm playing - see how long I can stay in the interview for lol).

Apart from the preparation I put into the interview, I think I'm annoyed because of some of the reasons why I didn't get the job...
    1. Apparently the fact that I have not used certain Microsoft packages (excel, publisher, powerpoint) in an administration setting means I don't know how to use them, despite using them either throughout university (powerpoint, excel) or just for personal usage (publisher).
    2. They don't think I will stick around due to finishing university - the job was a temporary post! They asked me where I wanted to be in a few years (and how is that relevant if the job is fixed term for a year?), I said that I wanted to be an administration coordinato r- to be honest that was all I could think of.
    3. Last point, they did not like the fact I didn't have any recent administration experience (my admin experience was two years ago)

Though on a good note... I didn't like my interviewers who would have been my supervisor and manager anyway, so maybe it was a good thing.

Back to the drawing board, I decided that I'm going to take my degree off for all posts that are band 2 with the NHS... I do that with that with job centre jobs anyway unless they say you need a degree... Also I have decided I will take the plunge and send off my CAB application form to do voluntary admin work this week, so I will have recent administration experience.

Quick question to you all, do you think it is worthwhile taking of my degree for Band 3 jobs in the NHS as well?

I looked into getting a small, economical car for my mum last year. It came down to the Renault Twingo or the Fiat Panda - both do a decent mile to the gallon, small and nippy but not too flimsy and don't cost the earth (although we were looking at second hand, pre-registered or nearly new cars).

I just had a stroppy agency on the phone to me. She put me forward for a job without even asking me first, they wanted to interview me on Thurs at 2.30pm. I said that I couldn't (I'm doing temp work this week 1-5pm) and got a big strop from her saying "I think you're being silly, this is a 4 month contract", etc. Well the temp work I'm doing just now is to try and grab the permanent job when it comes up! The job she wanted me to go for was paying 11k a year! Is that even minimum wage?

Anyway, I best run and get ready.
