Hope everyone is having a good couple of days.
At least there was a Football Match yesterday for me to work at which is a little bit of money and then today I have been in the garden trying to get a vegetable patch started. Gardeninc is certainly a relaxing thing to do!0 -
Hello everyone,
Please can I jon you?
I've been looking for a "proper" job since September when I graduated from university. I am working at in-between jobs in the meantime Support worker/cleaner on different days; its very wearing ;( although I have been able to get on a BSL course as part of my SW job which I really enjoy.
At the moment I am working on one application for a job in Manchester and have an interview coming up on the 3/05 which I really would love. I'm struggling to find jobs which are what I want to apply for, not for profit organisations and advice and project worker type roles are the ones which have taken the biggest hit at the moment ;( There was nothing at all in the local paper this week so I went out on a limb and bought the wider county jobs paper (cost of £2!!) and there was nothing suitable in that either ;( I dont think I am being fussy but everything in it was manufactoring/admin type roles - I may as well stay where I am.
About a month ago I lost my employment advisor as part of the cuts; they didnt get their funding from the council and so were forced to close - sometimes I feel so alone in all this. I now go and see my university careers advisor but they are difficult to get an appointment with and the lady, although nice is a complete fruitcake if there ever was one! She hasn't the foggiest idea of anything really and the ideas she suggests get more outlandish each time I see her; she just doesnt understand my position at all.
Anyway, its a lovely bank holiday evening here so think I should go off an enjoy it a bit.

Good Morning,
Well my daughter had a lovely birthday weekend and has now returned to school. This means its back to the job searching for me. I have just started an application which is ridiculously long.
Lexi how was your birthday?0 -
Morning everyone.
Holidays are over, back to it. Although I still have "Go Ape" then camping on Thurs
Hoping to hear some good news from an agency within the next couple days.Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Struggling to find anything new to apply for today. I guess people haven't quite woken up after the holidays yet
EDIT: Just got a phone call from an employer I had applied for already but someone else got the job. They asked if I can go in today to work just for the next couple days :rotfl: why not?Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

That's great, I would love if that happened to me!
Got the last haircut I can afford booked in today. Better be a good one. Keeping it really short, in fact mega short today so it lasts(not skinhead).
Don't like my new CV, so got something to work on, but I think I have started just to meddle with it rather than anything constructive.
I am actually starting to go into shock today that I haven't secured a new job yet, the bank holiday really rammed it home. Bet the phone will be quiet this week, which while understandable because of all the holidays is going to make me feel like I am in the desert with tumbleweed floating past.0 -
Hi everyone, just got back from appointment with next step advisor which was helpful, she gave me some tips about changing my cv, also looking at doing literacy and numeracy and maybe an ecdl course0

I wish Next steps would make up their mind about the ECDL, I've been given loads of conflicting advice about it. I've been told it's being phased out and replaced by ITQ so there is no point in starting the ECDL as employers will want the new qualification instead.
i was told that clait is being reduced(something about the number of modules being cut) and ecdl is the one to have,
i could have started the literacy and numeracy stuff other week but i was a bit naive in thinking i would get a job soon0 -
A big hello to Jen and also to anyone who's lurking but hasn't posted yet. All very much welcome here.
I do have the ECDL qualification but I can't say any employer has ever commented on it? If you can get funding for it, it would help explain a gap on your CV and help stop you from going stir crazy stuck at home, but if you have to pay for it yourself, I'm not sure how much value for money it's going to be? It's very expensive privately and I think practical experience is generally regarded as well as that plastic card. (I was going to say piece of paper, but I'm sure I got a credit card sized card bit of plastic when I finished the ECDL!)
Haven't got my second round interview sorted out yet, still waiting and very impatient. The agency said however that there may be a role arising at a company in my hometown in the next few weeks, so fingers crossed for that chance too. The role wouldn't be as much of a learning opportunity as the London job, but I wouldn't have to relocate hundreds of miles for it!
Not seen anything in the papers for such a long time - all the roles I've been going for are through agencies. I'm not sure companies even bother to advertise anymore for jobs in my line of work.
Good luck jobhunting this week, everyone.0
