    Morning all.

Got a 20 minute appointment with the Job Centre today. Expect I'm going to get told off because I have only applied for 4 jobs since I was last there. Hoping there might be something I can apply for this morning before I go.

On a happier note my parents are taking me out for an early birthday tea tonight before they go away :j
  • I feel awful today, couldn't go in to do my volunteer work today. I know what you mean I feel different being unemployed. I have tried to keep my routine going at least the getting up in the morning bit with voluntary work otherwise I might turn nocturnal again like the student days :rotfl: I'm still waiting to hear back from many many jobs. Is annoying to put so much time into an application and hear nothing but I am sure they have many people to get back to.
  • Have made 46 applications in the past few weeks..........heard back from 5........all rejections :( I hope today is a better day. I do wonder though if it is better to remove my Degree from my applications that do not require a degree, I am never sure whether it makes me look as though I will leave them at the drop of a hat or whether it looks good academically? Ah I don't know......guess I will keep applying and hope for the best

  • Been a bit naughty and applied for two jobs, I am supposed to be taking a break and reflecting before a quick tweak of the CV to get me the job I want. Feel remarkably positive. What with Easter it looks like nothing is likely to happen for a couple of weeks so no point in stressing. I am, however, back in bed with the laptop :)
  • I am in the same boat with the degree issue. People seem to see my law degree and run a mile so seem to be getting nowhere. I am thinking of having a different CV for them but most forms I have filled out have wanted it with all dates and any employment gaps explained etc.

Had a huge blow with going freelance yesterday, my landlords refuse to fill out my housing benefit form because they aren't legit and don't want to go legit! It was the only way I could look for jobs while setting up freelance. Now I'll just have to take anything and everything because I desperately need money to pay the rent! Less than impressed.

Why does it all take soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long?

Husband went for an interview yesterday, it's a job he could do in a place he doesn't want to work, but maybe needs must now. He was told second interviews will be at the end of May -WHAT!!!????

He's also waiting on confirmation of a second interview for another job where the interviewer is based in the US. They're trying to get him over to do the interview, he would prefer to do it by Skype. In the meantime the waiting goes on....... He applied for the job in February.

  • Yes.... the job I applied for within my current workplace and didn't get, going through redundancy, they have to make the effort to find something for you, or be seen to be trying. But didn't get it because of several very unreasonable and frankly suspicious reasons. I am now having to take the phone calls from people requesting job application for the same job, with a smile on my face when all want to do is tell people run away from this place - kick in the teeth or what?

Does anyone else feel like they are in a parallell universe since being out of work? I don't know if its the change in routine but I have been feeling ike i'm not a part of the real world anymore. Its hard to explain.

I know exactly what you mean. I think a lot of it is do with the lack of routine - you do need to get up and look for work each day, but if you're not suited and booted and immaculately groomed for a 9am start, no one cares. It's easy to let things slip. I also think you lose part of your identity if you've been unemployed for a while - before you were someone who did X, now you're just someone.

Friends and family try to be supportive in their own way, but if they haven't been unemployed, I think it's hard for them to really understand how awful you feel. I always joke about how much I enjoy the free time and they joke back, but truthfully I feel sick constantly. The JSA helps, but it's not just the drop in income that's hard to manage - it's how you feel about yourself.

I know I'm still an intelligent person, with lots of great qualifications and experience - but I feel a little bit lost sometimes when I look in the mirror. This thread does help - it's difficult to keep feeling sorry for yourself when you realise you're not the only one in this situation and actually, others are struggling more than you are. I think talking to everyone here helps cut down the amount of wallowing required to get by. ;)

In brighter words, my interview went really well.:) The interviewer really liked me and I think we had a lot of shared values. I went in thinking I wanted the job and I left thinking it was actually probably my dream job. I really want it, but am trying not to get my hopes up. I've been asked back for a second interview and the company is willing to pay for my travel this time, so I'm hoping it's a good sign.

Will have to have a think about what to wear though, having already worn my best suit...
