  • App form finished, now to relax and wait for the Greggs Giveaway to start and hunt for freebies yay. I would say the one good thing about being unemployed and relying on JSA is that I don't waste money and love finding bargains and freebies. Can't beat a 20p dress from a charity shop :rotfl:

Just applied for a job via reed and one for volunteering. I hate looking through the Jobcentre website, there never seems to be anything on there in my area or ones that look even remotely suitable are jobs that have already been filled and just not been taken down. Anyone else get that?

I had my trial day today at that job. I lasted 2 and a half hours and then walked  the girls there were all young and chav like (for want of a better word :p) and they took the pee out of my voice (because I'm Scottish but living in Wales) and then when a black guy came in for an interview they were taking the pee out of him because... he was black and therefore unattractive. Then they had a go at me for not saying the right thing on the phone so I just said it wasn't right for me and left. I feel guilty.
I wouldn't be feeling guilty I'd be reporting them to someone for racism......but thats just me :o

Is this month really depressing or is it just me? There's been hardly anything I can apply for all month. I was determined this would be the month I get a job. Looks like I'm rapidly heading towards my 5th month of unemployment once May starts. The only thing I keep reminding myself is that it's not me whose doing anything wrong, there are so many of us out of work I just hope employers remember that when they see long gaps on our CV's and application forms.

There's about to be at least 100 more unemployed people where I live as well, was the headline of yesterdays paper that a local large shop is closing at the start of May.

  • It is really getting hard out there, more and more businesses are folding and with the new benefit reassessments for the ones signed off sick, they predict a third are going to be moved to JSA meaning there will be so many more applicants for each job that is through them. Job centres send people to apply for jobs they have no experience or even vague idea about so the recruiters get fed up and stop using them so less jobs on that site making them even harder to find! I am pretty fed up about it at the moment, starting to wonder if I will ever get a job. Really need to pass this driving test I have coming up!

    Hi guys,
I've just been reading through the last few pages of your posts - what a friendly, supportive bunch you all are! I hope you don't mind me posting to ask a question.

I'm a full-time mature student with two young children and a husband, I've been managing with the Student Finance up till now but really need a bit of extra cash, so I've been looking for a Saturday job (with the hope that whatever I did find, I'd be able to pick up another day or two during the summer break from uni).

I applied for a job after seeing a sign in the window of a new shop which will be opening in a few weeks and it sounded right up my street as I'm something of a foodie.

I was asked to go for an interview, which was on Friday. It felt like it went very well, it basically felt like we had a good chat for 15 mins about my work history, interests, discussing what would be going on at the shop and how they see things working. I asked lots of questions and got very positive responses and one of the interviewers was asking me things like "Will you be able to help us cover holidays of the full-time staff" ...not 'would you' but 'will you'...at the end of the interview one of them said that they would be interviewing over the weekend, and they are looking for enthusiastic people and I certainly seem very enthusiastic about the business and the position.

I made the mistake of not asking when they would be notifying succesful applicants. I for some reason got it in my head that if they were interviewing over the weekend that meant if I was going to hear something, I'd hear on Monday/Tuesday..basically my confidence is evaporating by the hour now!

I just want to know, either way. How long do you think I should leave it before I get in touch with them? And how should I word it if I do? There's an e-mail address, which I used to apply, I'd feel better contacting by e-mail. Should I say something like "I wondered if you could let me know when you will be informing successful candidates, or if you could tell me if I have been unsuccessful at this time?'. Basically "Did I get ajob or not!"

    I'm totally over-analysing this, I know. Grrrrr.

    Yours, nuttily,
    Kimberley

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I brought up my local shopping centre website yesterday and went onto the website of every single shop they have and not one of them has anything going near me. Agencies only want people for full time work which at the moment isn't suitable for me. I just feel like every day I don't know where else to turn or what more I could possibly be doing.

Kymbogs I would just call them and ask if successful applicants have been notified yet, or when they will be notified. If for any reason you didn't get the job also ask for feedback. Good luck

I do have a job, I just thought I would pop in and say good luck with all of your interviews, and I hope you all find work soon.

Have a happy Easter and eat lots of chocolate.
