I need a bit of advice for a job application I'm filling in: there's one section that asks for details of what voluntary or unpaid work I've done...I'm 33 years old and haven't done any voluntary work...unless you count helping out at a summer playscheme when I was 17!!

Should I leave the box blank or should I put that I haven't done any voluntary work due to spending the last 5 years working shifts which required me to be flexible, therefore I felt unable to commit to doing anything outside of work?? Really not sure what to do and I desperately want this job!!!

Just leave it blank, not everyone has done voluntary or unpaid work.

Sorry to hear that, you seem such an organised and determined person, I'm baffled why your interviewers aren't picking you.

I should be positive because I came within a hair of this one. It could have been a toss of the coin for all I know. I know their recruiter so I will see who they did choose. But... something must be wrong to fail at this stage with so much going for me.

I am seeing my CV rejected or ignored again in the last week too, after many weeks of getting daily interest. It's hard to take.

I have gone out of fashion!!!

Are you sending your CV to the same people time after time? If so maybe it's time for a break over Easter and then take a fresh hard look at your CV. Try to think of what your view would be of the CV as a recruiter and what you would be looking for and what might put you off. Some serious introspection may be called for here. A revised, updated and if possible tailored CV for the job you are going for will help a lot.

Dogged determination coupled with cold hard realism will win you through. Getting some honest feedback from your last interview will help immensely.

drea I would have walked out as well!

Well my appointment was a big waste of time! The recruiter that I went to see was rubbish! She didn't really know what she was talking about and basically spent an hour annoying me!

Thanks guys, all they were doing was phoning people from the phonebook and calling them about carpet cleaning, awful.

Well just got back the assessment(think i called it interview earlier but it was both) and it went ok i think,

time to eat and check the paper
  • I'm back from my interview. I think it went OK. They were very posh offices - having worked for the local authority (in a building that's about to fall down) and the NHS (another building that is about to fall down) I'm not used to posh offices with whopping big water features out the front!

BUT they are interviewing 17:eek: and received over 300 applications for an Administrator:eek::eek: and they say the unemployment figures have gone down.

Anyway I've just found another job to apply for on the jobcentre website so off to do that.
