Today is going to be one of those depressing days. I went to sit in the garden and make the most of the sun but I was just sat stressing too much about jobs and money I've had to come back in. There's still nothing on any of the websites but if I am looking I at least feel like I am doing something.

Is there any study material you can get from the net you can print out? I am taking an essay on project management out with me today for my rest stops...

I know exactly how you feel. I've got an interview tomorrow and I sent off one application this morning but I've nothing else on the horizon. I couldn't find anything at all to apply for last week.

The interview tomorrow is a 12 month contract which I know I should be grateful for but I can't face the fact that if I get it I could be doing all this again next year. I think I've completely lost the will to carry on with job hunting.

  • Just having a moan!

Applied for a call centre job last week, have previous phone call experience, got a call today and the first question they asked is whether I have any holidays booked in the next 3 months.
I'm going to download festival in june, first festival i've ever been to, it's all booked and paid for, but because the first 3 months of the job is the probation period, you're not allowed to have any time off and so I'm not being put forward for the role!

I understand they don't want people ringing in sick or whatever but employers usually try and honour pre-booked holidays, rather than using it as a method of screening people out. Really knocked me back at bit as it's the first people to get back to me in ages. I was really hoping to have something lined up for after my census job as I hate being treated like a naughty child in detention every time I sign on.

  • I didn't get shortlisted for interview for the bank job, It's all getting on top of me too. It's quiet at my voluntary placement at the moment so get to finish an hour earlier yippee. I think it is only the fact I am doing so much voluntary work that is keeping the job centre off my back.

I don't know whether you have heard of it but there is a good site called ALISON you can do a lot of web based training you do have to pay for your certificate but there is a way around that you can download a learner record which shows how long you been studying, what courses you have completed and test scores. I've been using it to beef up my skills etc as is some good computer based ones on there.
  • Just applied for a job through an agency - something I always said I would never do - but its for 3-6 months rather than a few weeks.

Agency got back to me to say they are going to put me forward but there has been a very high number of applicants - no surprise there then - so I will just have to see. At least I have found something to apply for.

I'm having such a crap day.

I have only £50 left in my bank account and now that job offer has gone down the drain. Called them to ask why the hours had changed from the 17 we discussed in the interview to the 25 they offered me and she said she'd gotten confused and it was actually 25 or more they were after. I've explained I can't quit my voluntary work as I need it for my uni application and have only done 2 weeks so far. I said I could be free to work 3 days a week plus school holidays but they need someone for the full 5. As much as I didn't want nursery work I'm utterly gutted. I'm desperate for money, there's nothing to apply for again so far this week.

Sorry to read there hasn't been much good news recently.

My interview went well, I think. Not bad for the first one in four years, anyway! Fingers crossed I get an offer.. Will hopefully get an update later today.
