Good morning all, hope we are all well today.

I have been up most of the night worried about my interview today. I have never been this nervous before and at about 4 this morning I realised that it was because in the past I have been able to walk form one job to another and have never really had to sit around and wait like this.

My interview is not until this afternoon so that gives me loads of time to try and relax a bit!

Good luck Livermum. Keeping my fingers crossed and sending positive vibes your way

  • That's unfortunate but sometimes life is like that. I have conducted interviews where I had described the candidate as “gushing” (I thought to the point of going over the top to insincerity) whereas the other person thought that they were “enthusiastic”. When the suitability of the candidates is roughly even then the subjective opinions come in so the selectors can arrive at a decision.

Knowing how to “play” an interview can be incredibly difficult (I know, I’ve been there several times). One person’s enthusiasm can be another’s insincerity. As William Shakespeare wrote “This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.” (Hamlet, in case you were wondering)

You went to the interview and did your best but missed out due to the fickle nature of people. That’s nothing to blame yourself for and would you have wanted to present a false image of yourself?

This. I have always said if I ever did get to a point in my career where I was in charge of hiring and firing, a candidate that was fawning at my feet over the job would be a big no no. I find people like that so false. So don't beat yourself up about it, you were true to yourself.

Good posts, great for me to read. I have an interview Friday where they just need to see my intelligence and like me well enough. I have convinced them of my skills already.

Any ways to make sure I, er, come across as me? I mean, I am charming and professional day to day, but under the spotlight I can be goofy, it's a self sabotage reaction and I just don't get it!

How, in the middle of an interview that is going well, do I either stop myself from the wrong sort of self depreciation or just close it and get out of there before I mess up?

Oh, and two interviews in one day people, that's a bit of a shocker for me, eh?

morning all.. Just checked JC site and yet again there is nothing new. I am surprised at the lack of updating from them considering they want people to get work, Bet the JC computers are still on windows 3.1

Well unless I want to be a care worker (which I'd go for if I could drive since I can't find anything else), a beauty therapist or a vehicle valeter then I have nothing today.
