Never had a telephone interview - sounds scary....admire people who survive those.
In my line of work some sort of presentation is normally required so those are done in person....0 -
Afternoon all, hope everyone is having a positive day job hunting.
I was just in the middle of an application form when the post man brought me a letter with an appointment for the job centre for my 13 week interview thing. Typically it clashes with my interview booked next week, but managed to get it changed. Just filling out the self assessment now. Oh I hate that place!
Lexilex,
Is that the form that lists what you're going to do over the next three momths to find a job? I filled that out for my 13 week interview just before Christmas. The person I handed it to said "Oh, I haven't seen one of those for months." She does about three of those interviews a day, I won't tell you what my response was..... The bad news for you is that you'll probably be put on weekly signing after that as well, i'm afraid.
Drea,
There is a job fair in the Cardiff central library next Thursday 10-3, it's "An industry showcase call/contact centre". People like Admiral, British Gas, Tesco will be there. It's not my thing but I'll probably wander over after i've signed on at 11.00 in Newport to have a look. Don't know if it's any use to you.0 -

The form asks questions such as 'Have there been enough jobs advertised that you could apply for every week', 'Have you had any interviews'. I've started filling it in already, I thought their would be more misleading questions, in an attempt to make you drop yourself in it but it seems pretty straight forward. I was panicking about it but when I rang to change the appointment time they gave me the name of who the new appointment would be, and I am pretty sure it is with a guy who I've met before, and who was really helpful.
I soooo hope they don't put me on weekly signing. I absolutely detest the place, can't sleep the night before I have to go. For some reason the place just makes me feel sick, just the thought of it. I nearly cried the first time I went. There again tomorrow
I am really glad this topic was started, I need a break from application forms. Applied for four jobs so far today, all from the local paper, not even looked elsewhere yet. Two were straight forward CV applications, the other two were application forms, both 12 pages long. I HATE THEM!!
Also, in the job spec for one of the jobs with the long application, they explained the cover letter had to be no longer than 3 sides of A4  Is this why I am getting no jobs, because my cover letters are normally 3 or 4 paragraphs max. I had just spent hours explaining why I was right for the role on the stupid form.0 -
I thought I would come back and update everyone on my job search.
After a brilliant start the vacancies in my area seem to have dried up. I've had three, second interviews and two of them promised me decisions by today.....so far not heard anything and one on Friday.
Had a first interview this afternoon for a Company where I already knew the Regional DIrector and he knew of me through working in the same field and area for several years. Good news is that he thinks I'm right for the Company and they want to employ me, bad news is that he thinks it may take a couple of weeks to decide which office and role to put me in OR whether to create a role for me. I had hoped to get something sooner than this as I an officially unemployed from 10th February
I feel drained with all these interview and they are in-depth, sales orientated interviews where I have to think on my feet.
I just want an offer, even if it's to keep me motivated!
Just checked the websites again now and nothing new to apply for.My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to sayIgnore......check!0 -
Perhaps you guys can give me a bit of advice and try to make me get my priorities in order.
I applied for a basic 'data entry' kind of role relating to the Census and have been invited to an 'assessment centre' next week. Me in my typical way come up with problems with this:
1) The day they stated I am doing my casual employment elsewhere. Re-arranging shouldn't be a problem and i have gone back to them asking for this. When I say I am going to do some work for someone I want to do it.
2) (I know I should have looked into this more beforehand) The location is around a 90minute commute in either direction as sadly I don't drive. With shifts only lasting 4 hours a day I really don't know if it is worth making my life such a misery (Such as not being able to eat properly as I would be unable to exercise on a daily basis or at reasonable hours of the day). I know this is me being thick and having real mental problems but the thought of spending nearly as long commuting as working and the knock on effect it has is scary to me.
Gawd i'm a mess!!!0 -
Morning
My interview yesterdat went ok (I think! You can never really tell...and on the way home I thought of a million things I could have said to 'sell myself' in a better way, which is typical)
They said they had two more people to interview that afternoon and would let me know at the end of the week - if they have time to sit down and come to a decision (their words!!)
I wish the whole process of quicker sometimes - there's such a time lag between sending off applications, waiting to hear if you have an interview, finding out how you did in the interview and whether you got the job...All this waiting is just a special kind of torture. I do honestly feel I'm trapped in some sort of limbo and can't get on with my life
Anyway, back to scouring for jobs this morning, and filling in more application forms. I'e got no interviews lined up now, so feeling a bit bleak!
Hope everyone else is feeling productive0 -
Working on an essay for my OU course today, so a break from the job search and a gee up to my writing skills.
I cannot believe it is Thursday already!
Fingers crossed to all those waiting to hear news, hope we hear good news for one of us by Friday PM0 -
Ive still not heard anything from the Company that I really want to work for, they initially promised an answer yesterday, the guy from the agency rang and they said they hadn't made a final decision. He has called her today and apparently she is at a conference all day! Another day of not knowing but it doesnt sound good does it?My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. Hi all,
Looking for work at the moment. Not redundant yet but its on the cards and I might take voluntary for more money rather than wait to be pushed.
Plus side is I'd get three months paid garden leave (although cant work for someone else in that time), then it'd work out at 7 months take home pay. Got some flexibility but need to get another job to pay for my outgoings, credit card debt etc.
Luckily, I was quite well paid (£2200 take home/month) but I really need to find a similar paying job.
I'm in Wales too (not the centre of employment heaven).0
