Sorry to see some "newbies" to the thread today. It's a sign of the times that a thread like this is getting so many posters on it. Feel free to vent and moan as much as you like, we all feel better for it, trust me.

Slinky, I've had the same kind of experience as your husband. Some employers seem to think that the current job market gives them the right to treat the interviewees badly and give them a hard time.

Oh well, back to the job hunt....

I am feeling so down, anxious, worried etc etc today. ...I'll be 6 months unemployed next month. I cannot believe it. I just wish I had a business idea, some kind of talent so I could go self-employed. Massive sigh!

Oh I am so sorry Lexi that you are feeling this way. Being self employed isn't a bowl of cherries either. It just means the anxiety is constant instead of just when you are out of work. Unfortunately, in order to make money in business you seem to need millions to invest. If you start with a million apparently it's easy to make another million. But starting with no capital, it's a non-starter really. And even if you had, say, £100k, would you risk it all in this climate?

Where I live, shops keep on opening up then closing after 3 to 6 months. Each and every one of them represents someone's savings thrown down the drain, and a huge amount of physical effort wasted, and a dream smashed to smithereens. It makes me almost want to cry!

(I am really lucky in that I got into this (having lodgers) entirely by accident and it's kept me for a decade. I know that I am entirely unemployable.)

I've found it's one that is worth visiting each day and interrogating rather than just waiting for emails to turn up. If you put different variations of job titles in you can find things you may have missed on 'standard' searches.

Husband has just had a phone call from the agency. The company don't want him because he is too 'text book.' i.e. he wants to do things properly, not the fire-fighting way they are operating at the moment - six months late in designing their product and no idea yet how they are going to get it to their customer.....

He told the agency he had no interest in working there anyway.

What a ridiculous reason to not give someone a job! Good luck on the rest of his search.

Only found 1 job I can apply for today. Just can't wait for tomorrow to get here to feel useful again and remind myself that all this will be worth it when I'm back at uni and eventually graduate. Roll on May for my interview!!!

  • A bit of good news...went this morning to the salon. Asked for a makeover head to toe, so away went my muddy brown loooooong messy locks, and hello to a platinum blonde mid layered cut :D She threw in a free manicure and a massive goody bag after I discussed my degree with her. It's a little boutique-like place with a cult-following of clients and she's been thinking about merging onto cyberspace with advertising and a blog. I've volunteered to help her! It's a semi-free part time job (no actual pay, but she's offering a huge discount on hair and beauty, 70% discount...), in exchange for an online presence maintained by me...valuable journalism and marketing experience! :T So that's ONE issue out of the way!

Now all I need to do is sort out this benefit business, turns out I'm eligible for income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit! So that will help loads! Just a case of chasing up some forms and I can look forward to that too! :T

Oh well, husband has had a call from another agency this afternoon to arrange an interview in a couple of weeks time. Difficult location to commute to but he'll think about that when the time comes if he gets offered it. Another agency are trying to sort out a date for an interview next week, so he's getting calls, they're just painfully slow in happening.

That's great news!!! Will cost you hardly anything for beauty treatments and getting your hair done now. Shows it pays to talk to people about the situation your in, you never know if they could turn out to help you :D
