I am feeling so down, anxious, worried etc etc today. I have applied for a ridiculous amount of jobs lately, 99% of which I feel I could do well (couple of shop applications too and I haven't experience in a shop but I could learn). It's just application after application and hearing nothing back.

There is nothing more disheartening than hearing about somebody who already has a job getting a new job when I can't get anything at all. I've heard of two people in the last few days who have been offered new jobs. It makes me feel even more useless.

I'll be 6 months unemployed next month. I cannot believe it.

I just wish I had a business idea, some kind of talent so I could go self-employed.

    Massive sigh!

Could you stick in a speculative application to the companies they are leaving, or is it not your line of work at all?

I know what you mean, I wish I had some idea to go self employed, but I'm just not that creative! Have always wanted to do events planning (specifically weddings - I used to work for a wedding photographer) but it would take a long time to start up.

I also have the holiday problem. Have paid £500 deposit so far and the other £1,000 is due in just over a month! It's sickening to think of losing the deposit!

Good afternoon everyone. I'm just starting looking for the first time today. Hope this week is better than last week as there was hardly anything I could apply for. The 2 weeks before that I was averaging about 1 application a day.

The good news is that I'm still ok to start my voluntary school work tomorrow so that will take up 3 days a week for now. So glad the agency didn't mess up my chances although I will be very reluctant to say yes to anything else longer term that comes up from them after what happened.

Unfortunately both require qualifications I don't have, I have sent spec letters after hearing about people leaving before though so it is a good idea.

I would love to do events. Organising is my thing, oranising parties, holidays. I do it for everyone. I love the research that goes into it, getting the best deal, getting a good discount. I would love it, but with only personal experience it's not going to happen.

I am hoping if we can't afford the holiday they may move the deposit onto another holiday later in the year. It really turns my stomach thinking about it. I feel awful for my boyfriend too who will lose money all because of me. Don't think I've ever needed a holiday so badly after all the stress of finding work.

Nothing really except for the organising thing. I love travelling, would love to work as a travel agent or something like that.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good weekend!

I applied for a job yesterday and was told I don't have enough experience. However the company have said they would like to offer me a work placement and if I was interested then I could visit their office for a chat. Its with a makeup company and I'm very interested in that field. I emailed the manager back so its just a case of waiting to see what she says.

I started my makeup course at the weekend and I'm enjoying it. I'm literally fed up of staying at home all the time and doing this and a possible work placement is better than nothing. You never know what doors may open up in the process.

Good luck with that! Your right that you never know where it may lead, it's a foot in the door and gives you the right experience for applying for jobs.

Lexilex have you looked at maybe wedding planning? A friend of mine is doing a course on that although I'm not too sure of all the details.

I was just wondering whether there were any other big job websites out there? I know of reed, monster, fish4, jobsite, totaljobs, jobrapido and the directgov site.

Is there another website like these ones?
