Sorry to hear your news, DCFC79. I wasn't made redundant, but I had my contract terminated and I found it really hard initially, going from a full time position at the top of my profession to suddenly being unemployed. Hopefully you will have worked at your company long enough to be entitled to some sort of redundancy payment and that will cushion the blow, but if you have any bad days, please do let it out here. If you read back through this thread, you'll realise we all have our ups and downs and it can help to just tell someone. It's great to hear other people's good news when they land interviews, but I like to think all the regular contributors to this thread are quite supportive when things aren't going so well.

Bad luck with the application form, stephyt23. I guess that's a lesson to us all!

Sorry to hear you're feeling down, ladystardust88. What do you mean about feeling isolated socially? Is it due to spending all your time job hunting or not feeling able to go out due to your debts? I think it's important to realise we can't live a champagne lifestyle, but sometimes sparing a couple of quid and making a little bit of time to go out and have a quick catch up with a friend is essential. It's so easy to get trapped in your own feelings of despair and chatting to a friend can shake you out of that funk and encourage you to keep going.

richpoortyke, would you not pass a CRB check? You generally can't produce a CRB check from another role and have that accepted - you have to apply for a CRB check for each position (voluntary or paid). 2 months out of work isn't actually that long. Are you looking for the types of jobs that require application forms or CVs? If you're feeling confused, maybe your CV is starting to look unfocussed too? Might be a good time to get a fresh pair of eyes to look at your CV.

Great news, patman99. Fingers crossed your new employer won't mind. :)

Congratulations on finding work, Sharon87. Hope it leads to longer term opportunities.:)

Great news, babywillow. It's always good to hear other people's stories of success.:)

Hope your benefits get sorted out soon, twinkle1981. It's horrible when things are up in the air.

Stopped there because so many of you have posted since I last wrote here, but I'm thinking of you all. Congratulations to everyone who has made some progress (e.g. arranged and interview) and chin up to those of us still plodding along.

I went along to a 'course for professionals' this morning, recommended to me by the Job Centre. I'm not quite sure what qualified as 'professionals' as we were all from different industries and one guy had never actually worked before. There was one guy looking to move into my line of work and his CV was terrible. I offered to help him as a few simple tips would have made him so much more employable, but he got so frustrated at the trainer, he walked out before I could have that post-class chat.

I feel quite sad, really. :(

The course wasn't that relevant for my line of work, but the trainer was doing his best with a group of people all trying to do different things. It was the Job Centre's fault really for lumping us all together.

The guy who stormed out made clear he didn't use the internet much, so he won't be posting here, but I really hope he has someone to talk to as he was obviously not in a good place.

I'll keep a long story short, but due to my last landlord not paying his mortgage and being made homeless up until last month I used up a lot of my savings for essentials and had to go into my overdraft  I also had to leave my previous job because of the stress I was under and how ill it made me (despite how much I messed them around they were lovely and gave me an amazing reference and also found me the position I'm currently in).

The house I'm in now is a bit more expensive than I thought, but I was so desperate to have a roof over my head instead of sleeping it rough! I don't earn much in my current job and I always make sure the money I earn goes straight towards rent and bills, as well as slowly paying back my parents (they do not earn a lot of money and quite frankly I want to pay them back, even if it is only £10 a month!). Anything left over goes on the basics for food and I don't have anything left. Some months are ridiculously tight, if I do get the chance for overtime I put that spare money straight into paying off the overdraft. Things are tough but I want to keep on top of my debts and such, a roof over my head is the most important thing to me :o I have been looking into any other help I can get, I'll have to take a peek at the benefits forum on here...

Socially, I feel isolated due to not having the money to go out. I also owe my housemate around £200 (essentially putting herself out of pocket to let me move in!) so I'm putting pennies aside each month to try and save up to pay her back! Since you've posted I have made the effort to reach out to some friends and we are having a girly night in next weekend :D My auntie has very kindly bought me some beauty vouchers that I can use in the hairdressers near me so that will deffo bring my mood back up! :D Overall I let things get to me, when I should really take a step back and be grateful that I am not in the situation I was in last November...sleeping it rough in a church!

The job states applicants must hold an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check.
I did have a CRB check for my previous job. Though i dont seem to have the certificate to show this. I think i might have thrown it out with the belief that i wouldnt need it as it wasnt transferrable (or so i thought).

    Good morning everyone.

I have already done a check through the sites and nothing so far. Monday morning's used to be the day council would put their jobs online, and there would always be at least one job to apply for, sometimes 2 or 3 but now there's nothing.

I am just making a proper start on my prison application. I normally complete applications as soon as I see them but trying to take a bit of time over this one.

I'm really starting to panic now. 6 weeks til our holiday needs to be paid for. I cannot face cancelling it and losing the money we have put down. I feel ill thinking about it. :(

    Morning all.

I'm still here, at least i'm out of bed. I'm going to try and get to the gym later, i've been slacking in that area for the last two weeks and it's definitely showing. It doesn't help that i'm sat here eating left over cheese sandwiches for breakfast. (It's a long story!)

Lexilex. I know what you mean about the holiday. Everybody needs a break and the thought of losing the holiday as well as the money you've already paid must be awful.

Lets hope for some luck for us all this week.
  • Morning all

Im new to this job hunting lark. Nearing the end of my degree so have started to hunt for something suitable.

Its nice to hear of others having the same problems as me (if that makes sense) as i was starting to feel that i was the only person in the world that couldnt get a job.

Did my CV and showed my son (18), who pointed out some major errors of work that i had missed out, so im glad that i showed it to him.

    Good luck to everyone :T

Not sure what to do today. After all these good interviews with recruiters, the cv getting unsolicited calls but sill no interviews with employers? I don't know what to do now, something along the line is going wrong, but what?
