So that's me officially sorted for 2 weeks! :T
Working 2 more days the job I was doing this week and then the rest of the 2 weeks at the other job I did last week!

Also the office I was working for wanted me for more time, so now I'm in with them hopefully more work will come along too.

I just need to remember to take a lunch in with me, I'm spending far too much on food at that place. Atleast the 2nd job I can get free fruit, toast and biccies!

 I'm celebrating now that work's picking up in my industry :j

Had an interview this morning for a Quality Control job (never done anything like this before), this afternoon got a call from the Agency to tell me I got the job. Start on 11th April. One problem, on 12th April I have a hospital appointment, then on 28th I will be having an eye-op., I did not open my post until after speaking to the agency, so had no idea.

Just gotta hope my new employers don't mind.

  • Yeh gotta join in with the many people who have had a bad week.
Got my rejection letter for the interview i attended last week. Been very little to apply for this week. Applied for one job because the Jobcentre told me to apply for it even though i dont think its something i could do, but im sure they know best eh?
2 jobs i felt capable of doing. One i cant go for because the costs would make massively worse off a week and the other states a CRB cert is essential
Im starting to lose the will to live now. 2 months out of work, 1 interview and 2 rejection letters. Most just dont bother to say they arent interested.
Im seriously losing faith. My qualifications, skills and experience dont seem to fit anywhere. Ive lost all focus. I dont know what im good at anymore. I dont know what i like doing anymore.
Its likely im just going to apply for everything and everything minimum wage when my 3 month review comes up.
Oh well lets see what next week brings!

    Sorry for the whinge!
  • I'm also wading through the job market at the moment! I am very lucky and grateful to have a part-time job that pays for my rent and bills. I just want a full-time, permanent position so I can start paying off my debts and start living life again. I'm only in work at the weekends, and when I'm not I spent most of my time marching around the city looking for jobs, signing up and harassing agencies, the usual stuff. It does get me quite down sometimes, as I graduated last year and the only responses I get are from commission only, door to door vacancies :( It's also isolating me socially as well. Guess I've got to keep my head up at at it...

Well done to Willow and Sharon :T

I've had an application form returned to me today! Turns out my 1st class stamp didn't cover the postage (didn't realise this wasn't enough) and the school didn't pay to collect it so it;s come back :( I'm just a bit worried now in case any others come back. Looks like I'll have to get everything weighed at the post office from now on

I know what you mean about being isolated socially. I've recently moved to Cardiff and some new friends want to meet up but I'm having to say no all the time. Which is going to stop me making real friends. What else can I do though!

Very difficult without feeling inadaquate of not being able to support yourself.

A suggestion could be you arrange with them rather than the other way around, sometimes friends will invite you not understanding the predicament you are in with regards to cashflow.

A walk into town centre, museums, libraries, helping with job search could be a good one by getting help from a different angle.

Have you thought about doing voluntary work, most pay travel expenses and in doing so you would be active in building new skills and more likely be able to buy a day rider/weekly ticket with expenses paid.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

I just text one who wanted to go out for dinner asking if he'd come to mine and I could either make something or even get takeaway (wouldn't cost a fortune compared to going out for a meal!)

He does work in employment so it's good to try to keep in touch, he lets me know of the good jobs around :)

I have been asking around about voluntary work but I'd want something to expand on my skills and nowhere I've been asking seem to take volunteers on. Will keep trying!

    Hi Drea

I was redundant from the pub/hotel business a number of years ago and the best thing i did was volunteer for the citizens advice bureau to gain new skills in an entirely different career.

I have now been employed by them for the past 4 years on good money.

There are so many different roles and not just advice.

You may want to be involved in research, social policy, advice, financial inclusion, reception, admin, fundraising etc.

I have gained so many new skills that are adaptable to most jobs i would apply for just incase.....

(IMO) The training is second to none, you build up a new set of friends and everyone is very helpful and supportive as it is mainly volunteer based and you get expenses and maybe a little lunch (big maybe)

There wil probably be a few dotted around Cardiff, visit the adviceguide website for details if you're interested.
