Good news from me too. My b/f has finally after eight months of looking found a vacancy for an optician. He's going for an "informal chat" with the employer on Wednesday. He was told about the job by an agency.

I am feeling so down, anxious, worried etc etc today. I have applied for a ridiculous amount of jobs lately, 99% of which I feel I could do well (couple of shop applications too and I haven't experience in a shop but I could learn). It's just application after application and hearing nothing back.

I know exactly what you mean. I have been unemployed for nearly 4 years :( , I graduated from uni just as the job market took a massive dive and now I'm going around in a catch-22. Most employers don't even bother to get back to me about my application, it's frustrating as I can't even ask for feedback. The one who do get back to me always tell me the same thing, you're qualified but you don't have any workplace experience, we went with someone more experienced. I've been told this even when I applied for a minimum-wage internship:doh:. I can't get experience with no job, but it seems I can't get the job without experience.

Sorry about the ramble, just blowing off some steam. Not going to give up though!

I have been really lucky, went for my first interview on Friday since finding out I'm being made redundant and had a phone call to say I got the job! Can't believe it, it's only part time but thats what I was doing before. Good luck to everyone on here.

I know what you mean about that. I know a lot of people who have the qualifications but no experience, and can't get a job without experience. I do think employers should consider this as you do end up going round in circles.

Have you done any voluntary work related to the area you want to work in>? 4 years is an awfully long time to be unemployed for

I was just wondering whether there were any other big job websites out there? I know of reed, monster, fish4, jobsite, totaljobs, jobrapido and the directgov site.

Is there another website like these ones?

There is charityjob.co.uk which has quite a few jobs on there.

Thanks, I just tried it and there was only one job in my area and it was voluntary... I'm already volunteering at a PDSA shop to get retail experience and I'll start volunteering at a dog grooming place next week hopefully.

I'm a computer tech, so I've been hunting for that, both paid and voluntary but no luck with that so far, but I do keep looking. I'd have to kick my own !!! if I give up, so I just keep persevering and trying to keep in a positive frame of mind.:p

I've just waved my husband off to an interview. Fingers crossed for him please :-)

Oh dear, he wasn't impressed with the company. He didn't like the manager (whose job he applied for only a few months ago), the HR woman talked over him when he was trying to answer questions, the only person he did like was the person who desperately needs somebody to come and take some work off their shoulders.

Shambolic was the word he used to describe the interview..........

Oh and the salary was £8K less than his last job and they said they only wanted to pay this to 'exceptional' candidates. I told him I'd have walked out at that point.
