Left the house then ready for my interview today only to be phoned and told they have offered someone the job so they don't need to see me! Less than an hour before I'm supposed to be there.... oh that makes me mad! All dolled up and nowhere to go!

Surely it means tomorrow has to be more lucky though....

That is awful  and the reason I have tried to completely avoid agencies.

Good luck anyone who has interviews.. I am not jealous at all :o

I'm struggling today, cannot find a single job to apply for. There has been very little posted today.

Did get a little bit of good news yesterday, a friend of a friend is quite high up in the company. They told me to give them a copy of my cv a few weeks ago. We were talking about it last night and apparently they are creating a position for me, but it won't be for a few months yet... we shall see.

There hasn't been much for me either, only applied for a couple and one of them needs more experience than I have.

Sounds promising with that company though!

Oh this one isn't the agency one, that's tomorrow. Sorry I'm probably confusing everyone!

This was one I applied for a while ago, feel such an anti-climax now!

Best of luck to you all.

For some reason these past few days I have completely lost my 'will for the fight' as I don't have a clue what I should be doing or applying for.

Lesson for you (or your children) - only go to Uni if you have a clear idea what is going to come at the end of it. 1st Class Degree but I don't have the foggiest as to what sectors to look at as absolutely nothing inspires nor interests me in any way.

Ah sorry, it's probably just me clicking between pages and not reading properly.

Hope the interview tomorrow goes well :)

If things stay like they are at the moment I will be advising my children not to bother with university, except maybe if they did a course which involved a lot of placements so they are gaining experience at the same time. I just feel like I am in a huge amount of debt for nothing, and have wasted three years that I could have spent working and earning. Experience is key at the moment, not qualifications.

Companies' websites are good source of job ads.
Every website I visit I routinely look at the careers pages. It's a habit.

    Last week I looked at:

    Barchester Group
    Severn Trent Water
    TK Maxx
    Coventry Building Society.

    All had vacancies.

Compile a list of companies in your travel to work area, if necessary look in good old yellow pages, and look at the company's careers pages. If they don't have a careers link it may be that they recruit via agencies. Email and ask which agencies they use.

I look on the local newspapers online job page, the county councils pages, the Guardian job page online and the JC website (not that it's any good mind!).

I have a folder in my favourites with various websites, most I check daily, others just a couple of times a week.

Here are the sites from my favourites
    Local newspapers online site/Jobsite
    Local council websites x2
JobsGoPublic (though they only add vacancies in my city on a Monday AM)
Reed (their website has been playing up for me on IE recently though)
    TotalJobs
    Monster (not all that great)
Fish4Jobs (a lot of dodgy sounding ones on here I have found)
    Gumtree (as above)
    Job Centre Plus
    Third Sector
Guardian (not all that great for 'normal' jobs up here)
    Civilservice.gov.uk
    Goodmoves
    All The Top Bananas
Indeed (great for days I only have chance for a quick check)
    Milkround
    Prospects

As well as these I have a list of local companies I check one or two times a week. I have found the Jobsite website best, usually has most vacancies.

Well it's 5pm, time to start cooking tea and I've applied for nothing today, despite spending the whole day looking. I have uploaded my CV on to a couple of sites though. Is it just me or are these sort of sites completely useless? I have only had one genuine phone call from having my CV online, and it was months and months ago. I just seem to get lot's of scam offers via email.

I'm still resisting JSA, so I'm still being choosey with jobs that I go for (related to my field, experience) although I'm less fussy about location. I'm giving myself 6 months before I'm going to spread myself wider.

I only check trade journals/websites for new jobs. There's not a lot since last Thursday, there has been 4 new jobs directly from employers (10 if you count agency ads) and can only match up to 1 of them :(

I have two friends who didn't go to University, they earn very good money, comparable to us who did go, and they're the ones in the safest jobs at the moment!! You never can tell.

I had an interview yesterday, one of the panelists looks totally bored throughout. Somehow, I don't think I got it :o
