I think they have been updating the portal with the new star ratings etc - I have managed to get back on but it is still very slow. In the end I just logged into the rating system without going through the portal (looked on my history in firefox and clicked on the "home").

On the plus side they have replaced my nasty looking 2 red stars with a more pleasant looking 3 bronzy ones :)

Hi, I'm a newbie rater too. Passed the exam last week and had planned to start rating today - but I can't get into the portal either!

I'm feeling a bit nervous about this job after reading the stern comments on the portal. I can't imagine being able to rate that quickly and be accurate too. Surely you'll miss things if you only have a minute or so to decide? I'm having visions of being booted off in the first week!

I've been doing some of the training over the weekend. Did anybody else find that in the new rater quizzes, some of the answers didn't seem to relate to the page you were looking at? Like the page had been updated since the question was set and new info etc had been added/removed. Trying not to breach the NDA here, I was marked wrong a few times because supposedly there wasn't a particular thing on the page - yet I could see it clearly!

I also wondered how you know how to do tasks other than the ones we did in the exam. I can only see instructions for one other type. And how do you know what type it is as per the productivity metrics? Will this all become clear as I go along? If anyone has any advice, please PM me. It seems very strange to be starting a new job with no-one there to show you what to do or answer your questions. I'm not feeling very confident at all!

Hi Blue String Soup and Welcome!!

It is a bad morning to start! I have been working for about 7 weeks now and this is the 1st time I have had problems getting onto the portal. It seems to be getting back to normal now though so hope you can soon start :)

With regards to times etc - you really should not worry too much as you have the first 6 weeks to "practice" before you are expected to hit the targets. I know many people (including me) struggle with certain types even after the 6 weeks as the time given does not seem reasonable - but I just try to avoid doing too many of them when possible! But for most of the types - you do get used to them quite quickly and are therefore naturally faster after a while. I know I thought I would be "let go" within a week or 2 but I am still hanging in there!

Unfortunately for the first week or so it is a matter of reading the task instructions as they come up (when you acquire a set of tasks you will get a link to a pdf with instructions) - you just have to accept that quite a bit of the first few days will be reading rather than working.
And yes - sometimes I have found some of the training slightly confusing but you will get the hang of it - honest!
If you want to PM me please do and I will try my best to help (although please bear in mind I am pretty much still a newbie myself!)

    GOOD LUCK!

I got my second rating today and it is 2 stars again! :(
  • Right, I managed to get on the portal and did a couple of hours rating. Getting myself into a flap about timings now! I just did the same type as we did in the exam, and thought that I had to acquire them each time, but the next one just appeared as soon as I finished the previous one. I was trying to time each one, from the time I clicked on the link to the time I pressed submit, but forgot a few times so had to guess.

My question is, if I work for 1 hr 30 mins solidly, doing each subsequent task without a break, is my time for that session 1 hr 30 min (which is accurate) or is it the actual minutes between 'click on link' and 'submit' all added up together (which is guessed, because I forgot to time some)? I was trying to jot down the name of the each task and the time taken after doing each one, so there is about 15-20 mins difference (which is more than I was expecting!).

Well done on your promotion to 3 stars Fro-ald! How long do you work for before you get a star rating?

Since I have been rating all I have done is acquire a set of tasks and complete them or do as long as I want to. When I have finished I then look on my history in Firefox and see how log the set has taken me and this is what I put in my timesheet. (For example if there are "exam type" tasks in your set and you start them at 9am and work until you have finished them. Then go onto your history - put "task" in the search bar to collect together your set and count how many you have done together with what time you arrived back at the "home" page). EG 15 tasks, 25 minutes. I did try and log each task as I went along but just kept forgetting so found this much easier. I had my timesheet approved last month with no queries so I am guessing this system is OK. Even if I finish my set and then straight away carry on with the same type I just continue to count them together. I mark it down either when I change task type or when I break for a drink or loo break (or any other reason for a break really - Facebook/MSE :o).

With regards to the star ratings - they do it once a month so you will probably get your first one at the end of April. I think it is pretty normal to get 2 stars as your first one so don't worry too much

Hi, Hope someone can help as I'm new to all this. I registered on the lionbridge site a few weeks ago and have just received a email off them saying:

I can log into my page on their system and see candidate profile, personal data and jobs sections but I haven't received either by post , email on on my pages this terms and conditions questionaire they are talking about in the email. How should/will I receive this, What should I do?

    Cheers

They should come in attachments to an email. If you haven't received them I would check you Spam/Junk folders and if you still haven't got them then email them and ask them to resend them.
