Hey Ruby,
I am sooooooooooooooo jealous of your 50's inspired kitchen stuff.
I'm in HA too (and have the same unit issues hence the modern/50's mix) - we were due to exchange into a larger house in April (which has been rumbling on since last July) but had an email this morning from one of the people involved basically backing out - so sad this morning as had already bought so many lovely new pink and blue 50's bits for my ' new 'kitchen' - i actually feel sick when i think about it as i've yet to tell the kids they won't actually be getting their own bedrooms now.
I am super pleased at having money left in the bank - it's a whole new experience for me - long may it last (especially with how i'm feeling today i would normally go blow some money to make myself feel better!!)
Have a fun day

Oh what a shame Trixie. Are you on the list for a larger property or do you have two boys or two girls? (or more)
I saw some beautiful fifties kitchen units in a local junk shop but they were too long for my kitchen anyway but I've told my friend about them as she's had to take out units to fit in her cooker.
Have a good day. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

Hey Ruby,
I've two girlies, but fortunately on the list for bigger property due to DD2 health issues, in saying that the 'right' property has been a little elusive and we're not high enough priority to get offered something this side of the next millenium - lol:rotfl:
Back to the drawing board for another exchange i think (3rd one that has gone belly up) - this time has been such a literal waste of time as i could have been looking elsewhere since last summer - anyway it's time to move forward no point dwelling on it, gonna sting for a few days though.
Decided i'm not going to venture near the shops at lunchtime as i may well be tempted, gonna stay in and do my online banking to pay off a few bits and bobs.:A

Well I do hope it works out for you soon Trixie!
I only spent a couple of pounds today for the dinner - should have got it yesterday but forgot. And I got a nice blanket for a pound and a Victoria Secrets night shirt for two pounds in the charity shop in my local market street. I was very cross because I gave them two pounds worth of 20p pieces and a one pound coin and the woman was really snotty about it! Moneys money isn't it and I found eleven pounds of silver today I need to use!:rotfl:Here dead we lie because we did not choose

Thanks Ruby,
I am smarting a bit about the whole 'not moving now' deal, as you know i've been avidly sorting the house and ebaying and packing away etc etc getting ready for the move - when i left home this morning for work was surrounded by packed boxes and was upbeat and perky, then read the email when i got into work and so when i got home it was just really sad seeing the same boxes knowing there was little point in having bothered!!! ( excuse me whilst i just wallow in self pity for a moment.......................... ok moment over)
Anyway, positives of today ( struggling a bit here - lol) i've booked 2 weekends away at the coast (April and September) financed by DH, he also said if the move is def off we'll book a week in the summer too (yippee) - NSD as was so blinking miserable earlier & couldn't even face shopping (which was a good thing considering my frame of mind at that point)
Mentioned to the kids tonight that we're gonna paint their bedroom in a couple of weeks just in case the move didn't go ahead as the paperwork was dragging a bit (couldn't face actually telling them it was def off) - so they were working out a strategy as to how the room was going to be painted in two different styles (opened up a can of worms there) - fortunately unlike last night they settled fabulously for bed.
What a blinking cheek turning her nose up at your change - as you say money is money and they should be grateful for all contributions to the charity, the power of being a volunteer must have gone to her head -lol:rotfl:
Just checked over onto sidneysmums thread and your dinner sounded far nicer than mine too - i'm gonna have to get a bit more creative tomorrow .............

Hi all,
I've been off licking my wounds from this weeks events so have kept a low profile the last couple of days.
My house swap may not necessarily be completely off, possibly just delayed but what will be will be!
Veered slightly off the rails over the last couple of days, the site posted that boots were reducing their sale stock to 75% off either wed or thurs, so straight from school wednesday bobbed into the local huge boots and bought £320 worth of stuff for £80, between my mum and i we now have all of the girlie presents (birthday's/christmas etc) for all family and friends for the whole year at a fraction of the cost for top end brands - i love a bargain!!! - also was financed by OH, so didn't cost me anything, even better!!!
Bobbed to the charity shops today and bought a few things for work (m & s Autograph range) M & S and wallis all for under £10 (still within budget) but then bought a bag and some other little bits and bobs resulting in £15 on my card which i've yet to work out how i'm gonna cover the spend (have money in the bank but wanted to keep it there ) think i'll incorporate it into the food shopping budget - not ideal but hey the reckless moment has to be absorbed somewhere.
Gonna get on with ebaying tonight, haven't bothered really this week as was feeling really unmotivated but today i've got back a bit of va va voom so gonna make the most of it.
Need to have a weekend of getting the house in order as due to my 'can't be botheredness' over the last couple of days things need to be put away and some housework doing plus need to crack on with the attic sorting.
My mum took me out for lunch today (was very disciplined and only had soup, mainly due to knowing OH was buying us pizza tonight - lol:rotfl:)which was lovely, have sorted my meal plans and shopping list for tomorrow and i'm going to have a cooking session at the weekend to get some meals in the freezer.
Oh now a couple of foody questions....
I've got some fresh veg in my veg box this isn't going to get used over the next couple of days, do i need to blanch it before freezing or just bung it prepared into the freezer??? (sprouts, broccolli and parsnips - may yet use the parsnips for soup) - also, i absolutely hate making the kids sandwiches for their lunches, i'm sure i once read you can make all of the sandwiches in one go if it's just meat or cheese in them cut them up and freeze seperately, just depositing a frozen lump into lunchbox and it will be defrosted ready for lunchtime - any views????
Hope you are all fabulously frugal today.

Hi Trixie
Missed your post the other day for some reason - didn't see it there.
Well you still have a bit of hope so just see what is meant to be as you say - what ideas did the girls come up with for the bedroom?
Glad you got your va va voom back today!
Well you did well with Boots - I saw the post about the fit flops at Boots and wanted to get some but alas my size had gone! Apparently when you spend to save it is called spaving according to someone on the Frugal thread. I did a bit of that today.
I don't know about the veg I think you have to blanch them - or you could just make lots of soup and freeze that. Have a google and it will say I'm sure.
I have got into terrible disarray here so will try and get back in order and plough on with more sorting tomorrow.
My front room presently has a brand new front door that I found in it but it is slightly too short for my house, so I will put it on ebay and see if I get any takers then freecycle, then out the front!:rotfl:
Have a good weekend xHere dead we lie because we did not choose

Hi all,
Hope you all had good weekends??
Back to work today (boo) and have forgotton to bring lunch with me , plus i'm feeling really hungrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrey (((((tummy rumbles for sympathy))))), so i am venturing out at lunchtime to buy a huge sandwich that i will hopefully have to unhinge my jaws to be able to get my chops around it ( will do wonders for the diet - lol)
Weekend was kinda a bit hit and miss, i'm still not really feeling amazingly upbeat but better than i was, Saturday's are starting to get on my nerves as i seem to be either dropping off or picking up the kids from various places, food shopping or housework - surely there has to be more to life than that!!! time to restructure me thinks.
Food shopping budget hit the usual £90 but had to include my £15 overspend on charity shop stuff and i did by a game for the kids £5, so actual shopping was £70 (£15 - £20 less than usual), plus i did have a 'proper' shopping list to go by and did only get a couple of things over and above the list (which i had forgotton to put on but did absolutely need - honest!!)
Yesterday had to tackle the kids bedroom as it had got a tad untidy (understatement of 2011) plus had a move around of stuff to make it more spacious ( fortunately they have a big room anyway) - NSD yesterday as didn't even get close to a shop!!!
Had intended to make soup yesterday too but just ran out of time, may try after work this evening, depending on how i feel!!!!
Have a fun filled frugal day!

Hi
I have just been catching up with your thread. I am almost out of breath reading it. You are doing such a lot. Do you work every day? I thankfully only work 2 days a week now there are only me and sidneysdad at home. When all the boys were at home I worked every day I could. Daft isnt it? I just dont know how I managed.
Sorry to hear about the house. We have tried to sell our house recently (now the kids have left home) to get somewhere smaller but we didnt get any decent offers for ours. I am just sick of the upkeep on a property which is much larger than we need, and also the cleaning  I think we are going to have to stay put until the market improves - or take in lodgers :rotfl:
Anyway chin up.

Hellllllooooooooooooo,
I thought it was about time that i caught up on my own thread as well as loitering on other people's.
Well - the really, really, really good news is, that i have paid off 2 of my 3 credit cards - yay:T - last £100 paid off of barclaycard and due to unexpectedly lovely surprise bonus have also paid of my egg card. phewww:j - Just one card to go (although there is £900 on it - boo !!)
Half term holidays are over and my girlies are back at school today - i've no excuses now regarding ebaying so this week i'm gonna have to get back in the swing of listing - i've ebayed my socks off for a couple of months but in the lead up to the kids being off kinda lost my mojo and just couldn't be bothered, so the attic is still heaving with stuff to go - i'm gonna just try and visualise the stuff as pound signs rather than junk - lol:rotfl:!! - oh that reminds me i must pay for a rather gorgeous top i won on ebay for a whole (wait for it.....) 99p.
Had a little bit of decorating and rejigging going on at home, which is always good for lifting my spirits, so my living room now has the addition of some lovely red bits and bobs along with the black and cream and the kitchen is now looking a lot fresher with a coat of pale blue paint (was still blue b4 but slightly darker) - all paid for by my OH, so no dent on my budget.
I'm in work today (so probably best not waffle on for much longer !!) and its payday (yay) - so gonna have to sort my monthly finances later - This month i'm gonna try to give myself a food shopping budget of say £300 for 4 weeks and try to stick with it - gonna have to start with the online shopping again so as i'm not tempted to buy the 'offers' - i'm such a sucker for a good marketing ploy!! as i've noticed the weekly shop has been going up again.
Started slimming world last week to help me focus on the next 2 stone as had kinda lost my weigh loss way over the last couple of months and just needed a little something to get me back on track - paid for 6 wks up front (with baking money), weigh in tonight - arrrrrgggghhhh:eek:
Have some cakes being collected tonight and will use the money to restock on face cream that i need (absolute must have no other cream will do on my sensitive skin) - so will need to remain strong when i go to shops tomorrow to buy (lovely chemist with beautiful products and it smells so scrummy i just wanna buy everything i see - i will remain strong. i will remain strong - lol!!:rotfl:)
NSD today, as i had breakfast at home, brought amazingly stinky egg sandwiches with me for lunch (i've had to explain the smell under my desk on more than one occasion this morning - lol) - fat club is already paid for - so no spends for me.
Have a good frugal day
xx
