    That's a great log MBE.
Hope the holes are various sizes - different species like different sizes, anything from 2mm to 12mm, and they prefer holes that are sawdust free, as they would be in the 'wild'. Probably need to be different depths too, but I've really no idea.

Put it in a sunny sheltered spot - bees like to be dry and warm.

When the weather is very dry as it has been this past month, I put out a watering dish for bees to drink from, made from a plant saucer filled with gravel and pebbles and topped up with water, so the bees can walk on the pebbles and sip between the stones.

Yes, different sized holes but haven't done any 2mm (yet, found my 2mm bit today - knew I had one somewhere). Need to countersink them, and clean them out, plus build a shelter for it so I can fix it all to the wall of the house, but still take it down to overwinter it.

Good idea with the saucer. :T
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks for that. I think I will start smaller and try the bee post.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I threw out an old fence post when I was clearing up behind the shed, just a few days before I read about the bee posts. :(

    I needed space for cauliflower:
You know your problem? You made the gaps between the beds on the right too large. You should have made them really small, then you could have fitted another couple in there. Sorry to point out the obvious :D

but still take it down to overwinter it.
You've taught me something, I didn't realise these should be brought in over winter. I'm sort of making a new bee hotel right now and I'll fix it so I can take it off to bring in.

I am also pleased to report that anti-cat spikes seem to be working fairly well, and it's nice to know you can't cut yourself on them.

Never mind making space for the cauli, you need to be levelling your path before you break your neck. :D

Btw, just our of sheer curiosity, what's the actual size of your garden?

I just measured mine the other day, 468 square meters. A mate of mine has an allotment of more than that!

and he doesn't have to have trampolines and stuff like that on it either. :rotfl:

I have levelled that sticky-up one. ;) You should know by now, the previous owners (or the ones before them) bodged everything. The slabs are just dumped on the ground. Quality job. :wall:

I think it's about 60' long, and 25'-ish wide. The new bed is 12'x4'.
