We had an allotment two years ago the other side of town, but had to give it up when OH went to work overseas as I was on my own 2 kids, full time work etc.
Have the time to manage one now though. One of the local counsellers is trying to get some allotments on this side of town so will be registering my interest with him.
Lots of carrotts and parsnips comming up now. Planted out the beetroot yesterday and will plan tout the brocauli and cabbage today.
Mrs Veg Plot - fingers crossed for the Allotment - I've been up to mine again today, I just love it.:DLotus-eater wrote: »Sweetcorn don't like being too wet or cold, they rot very easily. I had no problems this year with the sunshine during the day (in the GH) and being brought in at night.
But in previous years I have always pre germinated on kitchen paper, then stuck into a dryish compost to sprout, which they always did.
Thanks for the tip.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I've just ordered Stockbridge Arrow rhubarb and a two year-old liquorice plant from Brandy Carr nurseries.
Can't wait!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Yorkshire is the best place in the world for rhubarb. It has a "Rhubarb Triangle". I found the Brandy Carr nursery a year or two ago, just browsing for Yorkshire rhubarb and I've been toying with the idea ever since. If you were to cut me in half you'd find "Made in Yorkshire" written through the middle (I was born in Ripon), so I have a great fondness for anything Yorkshire.
I asked them yesterday to recommend a variety as different as possible from my Timperley Early, and they said that the Stockbridge Arrow had better colour and flavour, and was a later variety.Mrs_Veg_Plot wrote: »Have never heard of a liquorice plant. What do you do with them?
I'd been thinking about the liquorice too, just for something a bit different, as I grow virtually nothing ornamental. As you can harvest the root, it fits in with my philosophy of growing "nothing I can't eat".
I could almost certainly have got them cheaper elsewhere. That would have been wrong. We'll see what the quality's like when they arrive.

My sweetcorn is on a 95% hit rate at the mo, bought from Moles, really cheap for 250 seeds which should last 4 years. The seeds are bright red and Thirium treated though (unknown to me when I bought them), in previous years I've had the seed go mushy, too high humidity I reckon.0
