    Tomatoes and tomatoes and chillis
    tomatoes26thapril.jpgtomatoesandchillis26thapril.jpg

    Carrot sprouts-very very small though
    carrotsprouts26thapril.jpg

Peas and second photo mangetout-obviously I know I need to plant many, many more of these!

    peas26thapril.jpgmangetout26thapril.jpg

French beans growing like trifids! and cucumbers-very low germination rate, they are the miniature white ones from real seed company

    frenchbeans26thapril.jpgcucumbers26thapril.jpg

Lettuce and leeks-need more of both. I thought lettuce was supposed to be really fast and easy-this has taken me quite a lot of moving around and eventually ended up in the greenhouse where it seems happy
    lettuce26thapril.jpgleeks26thapril.jpg

Potatoes and rhubarb both going great

    potatoes26thapril.jpgrhubarb26thapril.jpg

Finally blackcurrant and blueberries both with lots of flowers

    blackcurrant26hapril.jpgblueberries26thapril.jpg

No sings of life from my spring onions or parsnips yet, but have a few radishes growing on top of one of the potatoes mounds. I will be sowing more this weekend in a bid to win!
    Looking good Fay! :T

Thanks for the pics. Now I feel woefully inadequate. :o :rotfl:

Yes please, I could do with cheering up. :D

^That sounds mean, but it was meant in a nice way. Honest. ;)

What did you do, cross them with barbed wire? It would have been easier to stick a bit of chicken wire over them. Takes 15 minutes. :p

I had a couple of days off over the bank hols - had an awayday, been working on the census, and so on.

I am way further behind than all of you. However :
I'm not sure whether to be pleased or not about the rain forecast. I know we need it (as a vegetable grower and as a bowler I know we need it) but can't it rain whilst I am at work please? Also, I was thinking about going for a game of golf.

My beans, peas & lettuce & toms are going well now. Not long before re-potting time arrives. I have planted a 2nd batch of toms. I am debating planting extra peas (I'm not sure I have room for more to be honest).

I think that I can see one or two things sprouting out of the ground where I planted onions, beetroot & carrots. It is possibly a little early to be thinking that as I only planted them a week or so ago, but I am hopeful!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I've used plastic netting but it has to be perfect. I can't stand them getting in anywhere and then panicing because they aint got enough sense to remember where the hole was.

Not been able to post for a while but I've just caught up on what you've all been doing - love the Photos.;)

Checked everything in the Greenhouse yesterday, 2 cucumbers eaten by something and some peppers and a few other seedlings been nibbled by something so I've potted on as much as I can (running out of space) and sprinkled some coarse grit around surviving cucumbers, courgettes etc. Found 1 snail and 1 slug type thing.

Has anyone had any problems with Sweetcorn this year - I sowed one load and only got 3 to germinate, bought a fresh packet and have sown another lot and still only getting 3 poking through - 6 Sweetcorn aren't going to be much use but at least I'll have enough for 2 family meals. Think I might visit the Garden centre and buy a tray full as I love the taste of homegrown sweetcorn.

Everything else seems to be going well - good luck everyone.;)

  • scotsaver I have only had 4 out of 12 sweetcorn grow and like you will probably by some plants now although I am rapidly running out of space for plants.
We had an allotment two years ago the other side of town, but had to give it up when OH went to work overseas as I was on my own 2 kids, full time work etc.

Have the time to manage one now though. One of the local counsellers is trying to get some allotments on this side of town so will be registering my interest with him.

Lots of carrotts and parsnips comming up now. Planted out the beetroot yesterday and will plan tout the brocauli and cabbage today.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Sweetcorn don't like being too wet or cold, they rot very easily. I had no problems this year with the sunshine during the day (in the GH) and being brought in at night.
But in previous years I have always pre germinated on kitchen paper, then stuck into a dryish compost to sprout, which they always did.
