There are four of us in the competition this year. Each of us has 5 magic beans. I've only sown 3 of mine, so I have backup if required. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Slowly working my way through the repotting:
Everything's sooo far behind! If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The purple french beans that have been doing great guns now look very sad so contemplating starting from scratch with them. The leaves have started to go brown.
Have harvested all of the Purple sprouting brocouli, left the plants in for any last minute sprouting before I clear this patch for some salad leaves.
I think I will put the beans into plot 3.
Our last predicted frost here is mid May, hopefully this good weather does not mean that this date has moved on until the end of May. I am planing on planting the rest of the seedlings out mid May.
MBE the seedlings look nice and healthy. Do you keep them in the green house or do you put them outside in the day?I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

They are living in the greenhouse during the day and coming in at night, with the exception of the gherkin seedlings, because Sambucus is in charge of those and she hasn't brought them in at all.
Does time spent in the greenhouse count as hardening off? :huh:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I counted green house time as hardening off. My seedlings went from the house to the greenhouse and after a week in there they have been put outside everyday. The toms seem to be doing very well on this treatment.
Have not even opened the greenhouse door so far today, think I need to get moving.
I am planning on going through my seed box today to see what else I have that can be planted April/May. I also want to sow some more salad leaves, raddish and spring onion.
I am thinking of trying some square foot gardening to maximise the crop yield.
Have just realised that that almost makes it sound as if I know what I am doing.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

An update from me on my first year growing fruit/veg!
Repotted chillis-early jalapenos and a pretty in purple, second photo peppers
Tomatoes and tomatoes and chillis
Carrot sprouts-very very small though
Peas and second photo mangetout-obviously I know I need to plant many, many more of these!
French beans growing like trifids! and cucumbers-very low germination rate, they are the miniature white ones from real seed company
Lettuce and leeks-need more of both. I thought lettuce was supposed to be really fast and easy-this has taken me quite a lot of moving around and eventually ended up in the greenhouse where it seems happy
Potatoes and rhubarb both going great
Finally blackcurrant and blueberries both with lots of flowers
No sings of life from my spring onions or parsnips yet, but have a few radishes growing on top of one of the potatoes mounds. I will be sowing more this weekend in a bid to win!0 -
Looking good Fay! :T
You seem to have lots of space?
Did you germinate the cucumbers in a heated propagator?
Spring onions and parsnips take ages, so don't fret yet.
Is a carrot sprout some kind of strange hybrid I've not heard of?
Thanks for the pics. Now I feel woefully inadequate.:rotfl:

Are they alive and growing though? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
