Did not get the brassicas planted out yesterday but did get the whol house cleaned (my extra shift on Mon has been cancelled) so now have lots of time spare for gardening :j.
Did manage to sow some more raddish and spring onion seeds. The cut and come again salad leaves have started to shoot now, bought some more seeds yesterday so I can continue to sow more over the summer, also need to get some more perpetual spinach as I ate a lot of that as salad leaves yesterday.
I am wondering about sprouts which I have not sown this year. The packet says sow outdoors March to April. It is still april but have I left it too late?
Edit: Registered my interest in an allotment with the councillor who is trying to get some on this side of town. There is a meeting about it in a local village on Sunday which I will go to if I get back from the car boot in time (clearing the attic before the bedroom ceilings fall in on us).
Lilacpixie you are doing well on your lottie keep us posted with pictures. I enjoy seeing what other people are growing and what they are doing with their patchesI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

I will, first full season this year. hopefully you will see a difference in a week or so.. onion sets going in today assuming the black stuff has done its job and surpressed weed growth.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

I planted some Red Baron onion sets yesterday, but they looked a bit ropy so probably won't do too well (only £1 from Morrisons, so no great loss if nothing happens). I also got some module-grown Kelsae onions (10 for 99p) yesterday, so have put them in one of the raised beds this morning. It's my first go with onions. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I have now dug out the borders between my raised beds, in preparation for the glory-winning sunflowers.
Or when my new rhubarb arrives, it might have to go there instead.
I probably need to go any buy a nice pot for my liquorice plant, but I don't know how big it will be. How big is a two year-old liquorice plant, anyway? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Cabbage and autum brocauli now planted out and under cloches made out of 2ltr pop bottles. The cauli I planted about two/three weeks ago under 2 ltr pop bottles are doing great guns.
Sowed a few more salad leaves and harvested a few more raddish.
Have sifted the compost out of last years compost bin and now have three bags of nice looking compost ready for the hanging baskets two of which will be tomato baskets.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Bought another packet of Sweetcorn seeds today to give it another try, cheaper than buying the plants so fingers crossed.;)LilacPixie wrote: »I will, first full season this year. hopefully you will see a difference in a week or so.. onion sets going in today assuming the black stuff has done its job and surpressed weed growth.
This is my first full year on the Allotment too, last year I only had about a third planted up as the remainder was getting dug over and beds made as the Plot I inherited was neglected, so quite excited about having extra space ready to plant up.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I don't know, but a fully grown one reaches a metre high according to Wiki. You can harvest roots of 3yo plants, so not long to wait.If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
Another busy day. Planted more spuds, some Vienna radishes, chucked a load of compost on the third raised bed (the one with spuds in), turned most of the compost heap, mowed the lawn and drilled loads of holes in a log for bees:
Need to work out where to site it next.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Hi MBE
Is there a picture in your last post?
The first row of parsnips I planted only produced 5 parsnips so was more generous with these two rows and it looks like all of then have come up so some serious thinning out is needed. There is a row of beetroot behind the parsnips. The plants under the pop bottles are cauli and they were only about 2 inches high when I planted them out under them about two weeks ago. This has saved on the amount of water I have had to give them.
Broad beans doing well and no sign of black fly yet
Turnips also doing wellI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
