For parsnips, I used one old and one new packet last year and got some results in both rows.

This year, I got another new packet but still had seed in both old ones (now 1 and 2 years old). So the first 2 rows I sowed were from the 2 old packs (1 row each), and I have plenty more space to dig and sow more. The plan is to sow another row each of the 2 old packs and at least 2 rows of fresh seed. As the harvest last year was delish and we will use more (and I know my neighbours are parsnip fans too, and a few relatives) - so I am happy to use up space on trying. (I have one whole bed on the plot fallow this year as I am trying not to overdo things). And I haven't a lot of roots to grow as carrot fly is rampant on our plots, and DH is the only one who eats beetroot.

I'm fairly pleased with my success with germinating chilli seeds too! I was a bit early and the first seeds took an age to appear and then I didn't get many so I planted some more and no they've come through and the original ones have appeared too! I have planted some 'black cherry' chillis which have a lovely dark purple tinge to the leaves and also about 10 or 12 jalapenos. Also got a few sweet peppers.

In addition to those I have the following as seedlings:
    • cucumbers (still looking a bit dadgy after being transplanted but hanging in there I think!)
    • 59 tomato plants (gardners delight, some dark green tiger type toms that I saved the seeds from after buying a punnet at a flower show!, red currant, tumbling tom red).
    • mangetout
I also have a few tubs of alpine strawbs, 2 blueberry bushes in tubs, purple sprouting broccoli and leeks still in the beds from last year. One of my raised beds now contains rhubarb, 2 varieties of gooseberry and 30 or so strawberries.

I also planted the following seeds last night:
    • purple sprouting broccoli
    • courgettes
    • 3 varieties of runner beans
    • delphinums
    • sweet peas
    • agapanthus (saved seed from last year's plant, don't hold out much hope but you never know!!)

    I think that's it!!

I'm now 10/10 in 6 days for the Lemon Drop chillies. A couple of the Wenk's Yellow Hot, but nothing doing on the others yet. No sign of life from the tomatoes either, but they're not heated. I might whack them on the heat mat to give them a boost.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks for the advice on the frost prediction site, its mid May for me.

The parsnips were not a new packet but on closer inspection today I think that there might be one or two comming up but I'm not really sure what parsnip seedlings look like.

The beetroot seedlings have started to come through now as well.

Did not do any planting today but did get most of the front fence painted so that almost counts as gardening.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

My Sweetie seedless tomatoes are 4" high but they have some heat under them at night. The Growbags are ready and waiting. 6 potato grow bags are lined up with 5 Charlotts in each and recovered once and some Growmore added. Put my 5ft peas out today too, they are also 4" high. Had them in the cold greenhouse in guttering but not again, they don't slide out like they did on Gardeners World so next year its outside under cloches and something to stop the mice. Also put out 10 Little Gems under a cloche today.
