    Well, I've never been pro-hunting before. :p

It's not a badger (unless they can jump about 4' to get in?). Mr Fox it is. I've just been and bought some chicken wire, which I can cover the beds with as a temporary fix. That'll have to do for the moment.

Our local zoo sells lion poo, which apparently deters cats (well it would, wouldn't it ) but I'm not sure about foxes. Chicken wire should do it though.

We don't have a fox problem, probably due to the neighbours being more attractive with their chickens and ducks, but we do have resident stoats which do a bit of damage but I am reluctant to evict them 'cos they're quite cute really.

I feel your pain! Mine are planted, but none have germinated yet, and one of the varieties (lemon drop) is supposedly slow to do so - I might not have any of those until about May. I think you have nothing to lose if you try more.

Fortunately, it's going to be a glorious summer*, and everything will catch up in the greenhouse.

    *Yes, I am optimistic, aren't I? :D

Aye, you are... but it doesn't make you a bad person ;)
Yip, I think I will get some more on the go this week, to see if they take off.

Now, where's the best place to get wood to border the bed?

Evening all, I don't know if you're still interested but I did say I'd try and find a pic of frenchies with courgettes.

    Picture_039.jpg

The first blue is my first attempt at potatoes and the other 3 have 8 french beans with the courgette in the middle. I don't whether I'll do this again with the beans though as it was so hard to find them in between all the leaves. If I have space I think it will be some kind of row set up this year.

This is why I like something like Cosse Violette, the purple beans are much easier to see amongst the foliage.

I did plan to get a coloured variety but then decided not to grow any this year. Then my free seeds showed up! :o:)

My mate's got a big pile of that nice 9"x2" I edged my last bed with, stacked in his back garden. A few beers should loosen his grip. :p

Try a local scaffold company, and ask if they have any old or split boards you can use. That's how I did my first one.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Always interested in what everyone else is up to. :D

Please tell me that's last year, or you live in the tropics?

I have temporarily covered the seeded beds with chicken wire, to buy me time while I work out what to do on a more permanent basis.

Note to self: Next time wear gloves when you're playing with chicken wire.

    From the seed packet:

    'Lemon Drop' Hot Citrus Pepper

"This variety REQUIRES HEAT to germinate. Can be slow - up to 3-4 weeks instead of the usual 2 weeks. Some seed are dormant, even though it's fresh. Please sow the whole packet to be sure of getting enough plants."

    Sown 31/3/2011. 7 out of 10 have germinated 5 days later. :D

I must be doing something right.
