There he is.....going into the saucepan. My stomach is more important than Photobucket or to be more precise, my wifes stomach. Two reasons,
    1. It's her favourite veg and
    2. I get browny points for letting her eat "that" bean.
But I have another 2 contenders at the moment. :)

Better add, not cooking just one bean, four meals now.

Uh oh. I hadn't done any pruning of my vine cherry toms at all, so tried to take off side shoots last night. I figured they'd be pretty big as the plants are 4' high so pulled off a load of supposed side shoots from the bottom that were up to a foot long. But now I think some of these were branches!!!
Will my plants be okay? Having just lost maybe a quarter of their branches!

I have now taken off all the actual side shoots  and put some into bigger pots, also put my pumpkin and sweet peppers in bigger pots.

MBE. Mine's grown another half inch overnight and I've fed it some Phostrogen today so look out now. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

That was a good looking bean. You must really love your missus, to let her eat it. :p

All my Phostrogen went on the sunflowers, but I've been feeding the beans regularly.

Yours was impressively straight - mine has an unfortunate kink that is costing it length, as we are measuring in a straight line from top to bottom. Mine is now about 17", so nearly half grown.

I should have enough for tea tonight - the first that are going in the pot. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't posted back about the tom's until now. I was indulging another hobby yesterday and went on a cupcake decorating workshop which was fab!
Anyway, tom's...I took the advice from everyone and sideshooted like mad (but didn't read sambucas post until after I had happily composted all my sideshoots and leaves, doh!). I did have lots and lots that were about 3 foot high with a truss of flowers on them-I have kept a couple on about 2 plants because I thought I would see what would happen.
I think I went rather brutal with de-leaving but left them on the top of the plants. I haven't got a pic yet sorry.
The food I have is called nutri by westland. Every plant has at least 2 trusses on it, with some having newly growing flowers on them too. So not as desperate as I had thought and I have certainly learnt many, many lessons for next year!

Here we go, a couple of pics

Not quite such a jungle now-much easier to water. I just hope I haven't been too drastic!

I have some quite large trusses, but lots are like this-with some tomatoes but also some flowers/dead flowers on them. Is this quite normal?

I've done a truss count I have 62 trusses on 15 plants. About half of those are still flower trusses though with no sign of tomatoes yet, will they develop now it's the end of July??

I'm in a similar boat Fay, lots of trusses but probably more flowers than tomatoes. Time will tell.

In the meantime, look at my lovely spud:

That was quite a surprise, I can tell you! :D

Picasso. I'll definitely try to find them again next year - they've been pretty good for me this year. The Blue Danube are still doing just about nowt. I dug up a plant today and got about 10 marble-sized spuds. Very tasty though. I guess I'm just not being patient enough. :o

your too soon for the BD, mine are 4' tall and still flowering and I'm a few weeks ahead of you. I've had a rummage and have spotted some jacket size ones, so think yours need a bit longer.

I like the look of that picasso, so will try some next year.
