  • I am new to the site but am already converted and looking to deal with my diet coke addiction! Currently drink 2ltr a day, could you please cut me down to 2 cans a day to start with?

    Thanks:j
  • I've drank Diet Coke since the age of 8 (I'm now 32). God knows how many ltrs of the poison i've consumed over the years but I do know what problems it has caused me.

Even though I have brushed my teeth twice a day, i've had nothing but problems with them. I've gone from having to have fillings to the rotten teeth breaking and now having the remains removed. To date i've had 6 teeth removed and am booked in to have another 2 removed in Feb. Everyone in my family has got great, healthy teeth excluding me... and guess what? I'm the only one who really drinks Diet Coke (or any fizzy drinks at all). My dentist said that without a doubt my dental problems come from the chemicals in fizzy drinks.

I've also suffered from severe stomach problems since the age of about 11. I also have balance problems and am always tired. After years and years of hospital visits, tests and cameras placed in every knook and cranny, the specialists are still none the wiser. I happened to find an article about someone who had suffered from the same symptoms as I have and they put it down to a reaction to drinking fizzy drinks. I won't go into the long story but to keep it short, it the problem is caused by a man made chemical called Aspartame. Since drastically reducing my intake of Aspartame, I have seen very good improvements in my general well being. I've stopped getting stomach cramps, the dizziness has almost gone completely and i'm starting to feel as if i've got more energy too.

I'm not saying this is some amazing cure, i'm just saying that if you or someone you know has similar problems as myself, please as them to read up on what effects Aspartame and Fructose have on the human body and perhaps look into reducing their intake as much as possible.

OMG. How have I only just found this thread!

This fits my New Years Resolution to not be dependant on caffeine/coke in 2012. I tend to be relatively frugal in other areas of my life, its my grocery shopping which causes me problems, of which almost 1/4 goes on fizzy drinks (I now insist on buying cans, so I can ultimately reduce money spent at work on coke. This was working out at £1.20-2.40 per weekday alone when I sat down and worked it out!)

I aim to drink less than 7 cans per week (not including nights out where I have it as a mixer with spirits), and will be replacing this with orange squash. I have bought a jug, so I can make 1.5litres of squash at a time, so the convienience aspect of drinking cans of coke no longer applies. I have also bought caffeine free coke only on my next Tesco delivery, so that will force my hand. I've gone caffeine free on a number of occasions before, and after the first few days of... discomfort its fine.

    Bring on a non-Cola dependant 2012!!

Jesus. This thread actually shocks me, sorry for any offence caused.

"Less than" 4 litres a week! It's Christmas and we've bought some Coke (I drink nothing but water/coffee for the rest of the year), and even gorging on it I think I've managed about 700ml a day.

How do you guys do it?

  • I have a serious diet coke addiction. I tried to stop in the week between Christmas and New Year and was physically wiped out, migraines, exhaustion. When I caved it was like someone had given me a million pounds, I was so happy.

This cutting down isn't going to work for me. I have a busy day tomorrow that I can't afford to be in detox for but from Thursday to Tuesday I have no plans as I'm off work. I'm going to make this proper detox days to get me over the worst of it before I go back to work.

So from 4l per day, I'm going cold turkey. The demotivator tells me I'll save £1.5k...Scary!!!

  • I have just found this thread and thought i was the only person with a diet coke addiction.. I seriously need to give up drinking it too. Any help advice much appreciated:idea:

I never thought I would say this, but I've already cracked it. Between squash, tonic water and herbal tea, I'm a very happy bunny. Not struggled anywhere near as much as I thought - diet coke is in the house but not really being drunk, not bought any whilst food shopping since 1/1/12. I've had no more than 1-2 cans a week and even then they're caffeine free.

For me, I needed to find other drinks that I could replace it with, and make it easier to have that drink than a coke. After the first week, I just didnt crave it anymore.

Fingers crossed this continues. I hope you are all doing as well.

I was really struggling to give up diet coke. I know it's all chemicals etc. I've now cracked it. How do I know this? Well taking my grandson to the big m the only drink they had was OJ which I can't drink or coke/diet coke. I decided just once did t matter but when I tasted it, I didn't like it. Left mst of it in the cup. :j

Good luck to all that are still struggling
