This thread stems from a discussion on the nsd challenge board where a number of us were talking about how much our addiction to diet coke was costing us. A number of people said they'd welcome a challenge to give it up, then a pile of coffee/tea drinkers chimed in. So here it is The great giving up/cutting down on diet coke or caffeine challenge.

Not sure how we're going to run this, are we going to have CFDs (coke free days) or are we just going to support each other? Come on, it's your group, you tell me. :D

  • hi moneypenny2k count me in i've always liked real coke but when i had my 3rd it was the only thing i could drink around 12 litres a week now that was nearly 23 years ago i managed to cut down but with each baby i'd start again my 7th and the youngest is now 14 and i'm down to 2ltr over 2 days on a good day and a whole bottle on a bad day shes worse than me she can go through a big bottle in less than a day so i have to be carefull how much i keep in the house. i was hoping that would help her cut down but it just makes her cranky i also think it's TOO EASY TO JUST OPEN THE BOTTLE RATHER THAN GOING TO KITCHEN AND MAKING A DRINK AFTER ALL TEENAGERS WANT THINGS INSTANTLY ALWAYS IN A HURRY UNLESS ITS A SCHOOL DAY THEN SO SLOW THEY STOP.
I will keep trying to cut coke out but as our gp has already said don't stop dead cut down first as you get ache shakey hands etc especially if you drink a large amount in a day not so for those that just have around 500ml bottle or can a day althought be careful as this is how it starts if you can't go a whole day without then try having alternate drinks through the day say coffee/tea( etc yes they too have caffine but not as much)then your coke maybe water or juice but go easy on juice it can damage your teeth just as much if not more its the acid day by day is best or for my daughet hour by hour lol i will keep at it till i get to a point where i can have it if i want it but not need it

if i can stop eating choccy i can stop the pop the easiest way i found to quit the choc was to give up choc for lent just as a challenge to myself and the money got put to one side till i got to 40 days then i would treat myself to some new clothes (i'm not into posh stuff ) asda does me fine or some thing for the kitchen once i put it towards a new camera that was good i just wish when i ditched the choccy i'd of lost lbs in weight too never happened so maybe ditching the pop might see a recuction in lbs an inces on the midddle heres hoping we can all find ways that work and share them
right 1st week of this challenge i will aim to cut down to a litre a day this should be doable if i split a 2ltr bottle with tich wich i've already done this morning as she drank 2ltr last night from 7 oclock to midnight thats worse than me YIKES THATS GOT TO STOP NO WONDER I NEVER COME IN ON TARGET ON G/C right gona update my shop list for this week less coke more of some thing else ????? good luck to all

Count me in. I love diet coke and drink it by the can. I refuse to pay anymore than 25p for a can, but I'd like to cut down. I think I'd like to cut down to 1 can every day for the time being, then perhaps 1 every 2 days. I'm not willing to give it up completely at the moment.

    Hi moneypenny
Count me in for caffeine. I've more or less given up diet coke (apart from the odd slip up:D), but I still a bit of a problem with tea:o:o.

Good luck everyone with giving up/cutting down:D

  • Thanks so much for setting this up. I used to drink 6-8 cans a day am now down to about 3, but still have 4 cups of strong coffee from cafettiere (not sure how you spell that).

I would like to pledge, that absolutely no more than 6 tins per week. I am v picky about my diet coke, it has to be coke, not pepsi or coke zero or any of the cheaper brands (mores the pity) and it has to be cans, don't like the big or small bottles. My coffee really not sure I can do without it. I do have a brand that is half caffeine and half caffeine free, so they term it "low caffeine".

I put my current spend in the demotivator yesterday, it costs me at the lower consumption rate £350.00 per year and or a whopping £17,000.00 during my working life. the low sugar squash from work is looking good...........:j

  • Tescos - when they are on offer for 12 for £3!

I am also addicted but have not had a drop since NYE - still on the coffee though but I was only planning to give up diet coke because it is supposed to increase the risk of Alzheimers disease!

I was thinking I need to cut down on my coke drinking myself :( - well actually it's more pepsi max. I want to try and stick to 1 can a day to start with as oppsed to 1 can plus a couple of glasses.

Although article out today says if you drink 3 cups of coffee a day also, (for women over 80! not yet that old thank goodness) it decreases chances of Alzheimers by 70% :D
