The giving up/cutting down on diet coke or caffeine challenge

  • Hmmm.... well I made it here, but I have NO idea how I am going to give up/ cut down on the dreaded Diet Coke. I have been drinking it since I went on a diet at the age of 16, and I'll be 43 next month

I currently drink 3 cans, occasionally 4, a day. I don't drink tea or coffee (don't like them). I drink the occasional glass of water, and have a fruit juice with my breakfast. I don't drink alcohol either, and I find squashes too sweet.

I KNOW it is bad for me and my wallet, but I don't think I could (or would want to) but it out completely. I will keep reading this thread looking for inspiration to help me make up my mind.:p

    Good luck to everyone :T

Wow what a response. Never dreamed there would be so many responses. I'll do a goal list in the front page later.

Where do you find cans of Diet Coke for 25p or less? Please share this with me now!!!!

Not sure that's what we should be discussing when we're trying to give up.

Thanks so much for setting this up. I used to drink 6-8 cans a day am now down to about 3, but still have 4 cups of strong coffee from cafettiere (not sure how you spell that).

I would like to pledge, that absolutely no more than 6 tins per week. I am v picky about my diet coke, it has to be coke, not pepsi or coke zero or any of the cheaper brands (mores the pity) and it has to be cans, don't like the big or small bottles. My coffee really not sure I can do without it. I do have a brand that is half caffeine and half caffeine free, so they term it "low caffeine".

I put my current spend in the demotivator yesterday, it costs me at the lower consumption rate £350.00 per year and or a whopping £17,000.00 during my working life. the low sugar squash from work is looking good...........:j

I was toying with the idea of doing a little table of costs but that works for me Dolly. Good girl. you can have a star :staradmin
Please be careful though as caffeine is a drug and therefore stopping at once will likely mean some side effects. I tried giving up coffee 3 years ago and no lie ended up being prescribed valium to mellow me out as I was hallucinating and hearing voices, fair enough 16 cups of strong coffee was a bit excessive.
Reduce slowly and not only will you avoid side effects, you'll be less likely to lose it and binge out.
Good luck though, i'm down to 5 cups of coffee or diet coke a day but would like to get that down to a couple.
    :)

Agree totally, I had a dreadful experience years ago when I was ill and had no caffeine for a few days. It was like having flu only worse. You really should talk to the Dr if you're taking on a lot of caffeine but lets face it cutting down has got to be good for us.

After reading your post above, I was salivating thinking about have a diet coke with supper tonight.....................mmmmmmmmm but have resisted so far today, 4 cups of coffee though!

I think its a really good idea perhaps for me to try and reserve them for the weekend, this could be my treat. ;)

I think it's a bit like nsd's it's about planning, focus and coping strategies.

How about you try to limit yourself to 2 a day? You must think it's a bit of a problem if you're reading this thread. Aww go on images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRCSusuC1ADkLB7muUsqIxOFHTNI7lgfmgPR0aUMQ5lgz8A96te3Q

  • Time to admit the full extent of my addiction......:o

I used to drink 6 cans at work a day... I am trying to stick to 1 with lunch but have had 2 all this week.

    That's not it......

I drink at least a 2L bottle once I get home every night and can easily go through 3 x 2L bottles at the weekend.

I know it's bad for me & costs a fortune, so, I need help.

I'd like to try for 1 can at lunchtime and start with 1 x 2L bottles every 2 days.

    Good luck everyone!

I've been drinking soda since I was little and it's the hardest habbit to kick. I once tried to stop and ended up with a massive headache that refused to go away. Once you finally do kick the habit, you'll start to notice the differences.

Have you given up PopCulture? Or are you going to join us for the challange?

    ahhhhh thank you soooo much!!

I have literally been addicted to coke since I was about 15 or 16 - people laugh when I say that, cos its "not ciggies or drink" but it is really difficult - at the worst point I was drinking between 2 and 4 litres a DAY! I got that down recently to about 2 litres every 2 or 3 days and as of last week stopped buying it completely - its horrible, drinks dont taste the same, Im restless at night and I think sometimes I go slightly mad lol. This thread will be a lifesaver - giving up the oke and fizzy drinks is the only way I will ever lose the weight I need to!
Life is what you make it.
