    Afternoon all,

Cold here this morning....Kerry in vets for 10.00 for neutering...have pains all over thinking about her! She will be home this evening so can pet her then.

When we came home electricity meter reader had been...will get an estimated bill now, could call in reading but calculated it myself and bill for 2 months will be about €550!! Will leave it to next bill and boost what I pay in the meantime, hope that it is mainly the heaters we had in attic during frost to thaw pipes, will take me until next bill to sort though, even throwing every spare cent at it...really feeling down about that like to be ahead with it.

Welcome b_girl, you will like it here.

Hugs to all in need or want of one, stay warm

  • Hello all,
I have been a very longtime lurker and just thought I would jump in. Hope that's O.K.?
I do try to do things Old Style - a line of washing blowing in the sunshine (although that seems a distant memory at the moment). The weather seems to have been cold and damp/ soaking for months.
Cooked a joint of bacon in the pressure cooker at the weekend and made some lentil soup with the bacon water. Soup thickened up a lot yesterday with added leftover veggies and some bacon, so made it into lentil lasagne last evening for dinner and 4 portions in the freezer for next week.
Going to try Omelette Arnold Bennett for dinner tonight - a first for me, but OH loves smoked haddock. Going to use a cheaty Delia recipe.
Anyhow, better get on - house is a tip
    Good day everyone

  • Hi everyone! :hello:

I'm a newbie to this thread, but there are a few familiar faces I know from elsewhere on forum. :)

I hope you don't mind me joining you!

A little about me - I'm married, no pets or kids, and work full-time. I've joined the frugal living challenge for this year as I need to cut down on spending as DH is losing his job later in the year and we need to prepare for that.

OS things today - brought in HM lunch to work and tonight will be eggs, chips and beans for dinner. Should be a NSD too. Also, been accepted to do a Tesco Home Panel trial of free from pizza bases so that will be a cheap meal when they arrive! :)

I might join the flylady thread one of these days as I really need to get my house organised, but one thing at a time! :o:rotfl:

DD1 still snoozing but it's her TOTM (properly) so she is really tired was thinking of asking the doctors whether there are any vitamins i could give her, as she is looking totally washed out poor love :(.

I second iron and vit c, the latter helps the former absorb better. Know how she feels poor love, it's one of the reasons I had the mirena fitted.
Bitsy, love the word !!!!!!, but I'm far too young innocent & naive to work out what it means, lol.

I only wish I could take credit for it's conception ;)

    Afternoon everyone :D

Been to Forest School this morning so got nice and muddy :D Kids enjoyed it although most of the day has now gone and I've not got much done! Dull and wet here but it's mild so that's a bonus.
Tea tonight is a makeshift as I have tap class.
No other news and sorry not much OS going on today :o
Need to sort out what dates I am booking off this year as one mindees mum is asking. I WILL take more time off this year and b*gger the loss of income :o

b-Girl - welcome, I am round your neck of the woods. We have an OS meet in Brum on 22nd Jan if you're interested :)

  • Adelight......You would freak out at the low carb version :rotfl:but I found this recipe from my low fat days

    Low Fat Moussaka
    Serves 6
    258 cals/10g fat per serving

    1 lge onion, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    450g lean lamb mince
    1 tbsp chopped thyme
A 400g can of chopped tomatoes
    1 tbsp tomato puree
    1 large Aubergine
½ pint (300ml) low fat natural yoghurt
    I beaten egg
    1 tsp mustard powder
    salt and pepper

    Preheat Oven 180c/Gas 4

Dry fry the onion in a non stick frying pan until soft. Add the garlic and the lamb mince. Cook quickly until the meat is well sealed.
Add the thyme, tomatoes and tomato puree season with salt and pepper and simmer gently.
Meanwhile cut the aubergine into thin slices and place on a non stick baking tray, season with plenty of salt and pepper and grill for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
Place alternate layers of the lamb mixture and aubergines in an oven proof dish.
Combine the yoghurt, beaten egg and mustard, season well and pour over the lamb.
Bake in the oven for 30 - 35 minutes or until golden brown.
