Very unhappy with O2 Recycle. Was offered a good price for iPhone 4S in very good condition £152.00. They sent out the pre-paid packaging promptly and I parcelled up the phone as suggested and mailed by Special Delivery.
Received an email from them two days later advising that the phone had a broken screen and they would offer me £30.00. Asked for a photo which was not forthcoming and have now asked for the phone to be mailed back to me. I am curious to see the extent of the damage.
I am extremely annoyed that clearly the packaging they send out is not fit for purpose and they must have hundreds of phones that arrive 'damaged'. Checked on claims procedure for Royal Mail Special Delivery compensation and I have to send them the goods and the original packaging for inspection. Contacted O2 and asked for the packaging to be sent back and was told it had been thrown away. So I have no means of claiming from either Royal Mail or O2.
To my mind O2 are sending out packaging that is not fit for purpose. Will inspect phone on return and pursue further options to reimburse my loss.
O2 Recycle never again - have used Carphone Warehouse before for recycling. Handed phone over the counter and received cash then and there. Far better. It may have been a lower price but for this much hassle it would have been worth it.0 -
Just to update everyone.
The iPhone was returned from O2 Recycle today. I am pleased to report the screen is not damaged. I am completely mystified as to why the value was reduced from £152.00 to £30.00.
I am looking at all options but first raising it as a complaint with O2.
I shall keep you posted.0 -

Had similar experience. Offered me £150 for iPhone 4S which was in decent condition, some wear n tear but no cracks and worked perfectly. I sent to O2 as I thought they would be reputable too and they offered more money. They found screen damage (that didn't exist) and offered me £35. I immediately refused and got the phone sent back. Sent to Mizuma (as I should have done first time as used them before) and within 24 hours the full agrees money was in my account. I couldn't believe how straightforward it was. I posted at lunchtime and by midday the next day money was in my account. I simply won't use anyone else. As I said don't be fooled by others offering more.0 -

Is it possible for you go into an O2 shop and get the screen condition confirmed somehow, before you raise the complaint?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Just to update everyone.
Had an electrical engineer / IT specialist check the phone over who could see no damage.
Today took the iPhone 4S into CEX who after a full check were pleased with the condition and offered me £179.00 cash. A lot better than the £30.40 offered by O2 Recycle as the screen supposedly had LCD 'shading'.
I have to admit to being surprised and disappointed at the level of service offered from O2 with regards to the valuation. Although I would say their web team have responded promptly to my queries and O2 Recycle sent the phone back without charge.0 -
Same issue as previous posts - 80% reduction on the £147 for an iPhoen 4s due to 'screen shading' when they ran it with a 'white screen', apparently some of the pixels aren't working.
Had to ring them as they sent me text saying they'd emailed me but hadn't. Asked for a return and they didn't put up any fight/counter offer so I assume they may get this a lot.0 -
Just got the following text:
Your recycling order has received a 100% reduction making your new value £0.00!!! How are they getting away with this?!0 -
I sent and iphone4S in to O2 Recycle in December which was working perfectly - I upgraded my phone the week before and was trading in.
On receipt of the phone I received an email from O2 Recycle informing me the handset had received a 50% reduction as the volume buttons were not functioning to the manufacturers specification.
I sent an email challenging their decision and spoke to a customer services rep who agreed to have the phone retested as I was adamant it was working correctly.
I have today received confirmation that the iphone was tested incorrectly in the first instance and the retest shows it is working fine so I will receive the full valuation.
A complete hassle but worth the effort!
I now have an ipad2 to trade in - I'll let you know how I get on!0 -
I was offered £122 for iPhone 4S 16g by O2, went to CEX today and got £156 cash - glad I shopped around!0

Credit where it's due:
O2 offered me double the price of anyone else for recycling my phone (Motorola Razr XT910), offering me £40.50 when the next highest was £20. Despite the recent reviews I thought it was worth the risk.
I posted it to them on Friday (10/01), they confirmed receipt and full payment was being processed on Tues (14/01) and money was in my account the same day. No attempts to offer me less.
The only downside was that the packaging they sent for me to send the phone to them was fairly flimsy, so I used along with some of my own to ensure the phone was protected.0
