From my own observations of the BT rep involvement on the Internet board it appears to mostly involve putting up very visible offers of help. Some have said that that is the sum total of it and nothing further of any use actually happens. I don't think I've ever seen a posting back from someone saying that the BT rep involvement lead to any sort of resolution.

He (or she) is just as useless as the morons that answer the phone for bt then.
Oh and not forgetting the engineers!

Had engineer No.9 out all day yesterday and most of today, he said he was the most skilled broadband engineer available.
He couldn't fix the problem and I'm now left with worse speed than ever!

    Thanks BT

Don't concerntrate too much on the speedtests as the BTw line management would still be punishing you for the past poor line quality even if it was perfect now. You need to look at the router line statistics instead.

How to get those stats (for some routers at least)
    http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php

Once you have the stats the important bits are the sync rate the attenuation and the noise margin.
The noise margin after a resync is likely to be high given the trouble you've had - I'd guess at 15dB. It takes weeks for that to return to the default 6dB. A high noise margin means it will sync lower than it should for the attenuation..

On top of that each time it drops out on a call it may resync at a low rate while the call is in progress. The BTw line management bases the IP profile (maximum speed you can download at) on that low sync for several days and higher syncs don't bring higher speeds until the IP profile gets raised. With repeat low syncs you'll remain in the slow lane forever even if most of the time you have a decent sync rate.

I've even seen stats where problems have resulted in a fixed low profile that remains low until manually changed.

Post up your stats if you can find them and I'll tell you what my guess is on the state of play.
