Are you plugged into the internal test socked behind your master faceplate? -eliminates any possibility of your internal wiring being at fault (which BT like to charge you for pointing out to you)

Do you have a DECT phone (cordless)? If so, and you are using a wireless connection rather than ethernet for your broadband, then move the phone away from the router-the 2 can clash, as the wireless works on a similar wavelength.

I do have a dect phone right next to the router, they both sit on my office desk, How much distance do you suggest?

Faulty handset then?-swap that over and retest. You just need to keep going until you have eliminated all the pieces in the chain.

Don't worry about the distance at this stage. Establish whether they are part of the problem first. Presumably when you did your experiment with the test socket they were not connected in any way? Ideally powered down? If this is the case, then they are not really an essential player in your current problem.

As and when you get your ISP to get a fault fix, make sure that the DECT phones are off. Once the job is fixed and your router works OK, you need to double check as to whether the DECT phone is doing anything.

  • I would remove all of all phones faxes sky etc then call home from the mobile and add them one by one. And do not forget the burglar alarm
