  • After reading everyone elses posts about CEX I took the advice and actually went into the store to see how much they'd give me for my HTC Wildfire. On their website a Grade A mint condition phone would receive £41, which I considered mine to be. However in store they offered me £33, saying that Grade A is a new phone in a box with the seal unbroken, Grade B is new phone but with the seal broken and Grade C is everything else. Then I heard one of the other employees explaining the grading to someone else completely differently, so I think they make it up as they go along. However, I will say that £33 was the most I was able to get on any site and was almost double what some sites were offering, so as the difference between Grades A and C was only £8 I took the offer. I didn't have to wait for the money either, they paid me straight away in cash and they were very polite and friendly too. :)

I can live with CEX, anyone sending a phone away to anyone for sale is going to be offered peanuts as there is little negotiation, you should deal in store, if you don't like the offer you can walk away. It no different to webuyanycar, Gold by post, you name it.

They don't test stuff much, I bought a 2nd hand SD card in a store and when I looked at it, there was someones life still on it, photos, emails, documents, music, video so CEX couldn't even both formatting it to test its genuine before selling.
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.
  • I went into local CEX this morning to sell no longer needed motorola mobile - site said up to £8. I was offered £3 as not in original sealed box! what is??. I was then asked to come back later after they had checked it and was told I would need my passport and/or driving license - for £3, please! I walked out.

I took an unlocked phone in to Luton Cex with original box, charger & accessories, all in perfect working order, and great cosmetic condition. I think it's their policy to always offer the grade C valuation regardless.

The unlocked was the only bit they honoured.
  • I paid 815 for apple lap top a condition on line they sent a dirty. Water damaged lap top apple store told me it was water damaged I paid 27 to return it and now they will not give me my money back. I found out it was sent from there Hertfordshire store when I rang the store the manager said it must have got damaged in transit this is rubbish it was so well packaged they just got rid on me it's now 10. Weeks so they don't intend paying my money back my advise keep away they need taking off on line trading. I have. No money so can not buy another lap top
  • My daughter bought a phone on line from this company. It stopped working within a week. This was February. She has returned it to them and followed up with a number of e-mails. All she gets is stock replies quoting "larger than expected number of returns".

I have now e-mailed them and given them some very specific time frames for responses. Unfortunately she is a student and has no credit card so purchased with a debit card.

I think people now need to start reporting this company to Trading Standards/Watchdog and maybe Martin Lewis himself so we can try to get some response.

I have looked on the Companies House website but cannot find who owns or manages the company.

Time for us to take action i think.
  • Hi
Just to inform you good people out there about what happened today at Cex . Ok on there web it says up £84 for my old business mobiles each . which is good as the money was going to charity . off i went to see them .Now im not stupid so i had one phone in my pocket with all the bits that cane with it in a bag along with the other phone . i spoke to a KID who spent 95% of the time looking at the floor .. he then offered me £46 for the phone Ahh i said on your web is says up to £84 how do you get that . well you would need all the bits that came with it and the box with the same ime number . so i said you mean like thios one his face droped then offered £56 stating it had a scratch on the screen . Hmmm so i asked if it had not got the scratch on the screen how much would i have got his reply was £79 at that point i give hime the other phone which was less than 3 months old and like it had just come out of the shop he just looked at me and said best i can do MATE is £100 cash
Dispite the same phone on display in the shop at £95 and not as cleaN AS THOSE I BROUGHT IN . i TOLD HIM (*^&$%"^&)*(&(*&^%^&%$*(&^()*&%*^*&)(*&%%$^&%$&^ AND THAT I WOULD REPORT IT AS MISS LEADING
Phones got sold today to another company for £160 for the two and money will be going to a local charity

  • Hi

Had some phones that where not needed and went on line to see what I could get, CeX made the best offer for 2 of my phone, a Nokia 6700 classic (£51) and a much older Nokia (£12). I know that the offer was dependent on condition and the 6700 was in excellent condition and the other was good but to say I was disappointed is an understatement. They offered me £28 and nothing which I turned down. I got a far better offer on line and will be posting them off in the next few days.

If you decide to use CeX may I suggest that you don't make a special journey and make sure you take everything the phone came with (e.g. cables, charger, disk, etc.) . Don't give them any excuses.

    Regards

Dirty, dirty shop which tries to sell secondhand stuff at nearly new prices.

From my few experiences at a Cex branch shop, They have never once honoured any price they put up on websites.

I once witnessed a group of teens (a few years back) pulling off Virgin stickers and then emptying a rucksack full of DVD's onto the counter (of the same film) and asking for cash. I phoned the "very" nearby Virgin shop about the incident and was phoned back later by the security guard that they had visited the shop and were astonished to find so many of their unsold items there, not just the ones I saw.

After that I never went in there again. In my humble opinion it seems like a fencing shop for criminals, I'm not sure if what I buy will actually be kosher, so I don't venture anywhere near its doorstep online or in the real world.

But again, thats just my opinion and it may have been a one off.
