I got prices for three of my phones - £39, £15 and £5 (which is lower than they advertise!). I made sure the batteries were all fully charged and sent the phones off.
The email came back with various faults - saying none of the phones were working, one had a loose battery cover etc and offered me £7, £0.20 and £0.20 respectively! I have told them to return the phones to me!!

After reading reviews on here I was sceptical about using them but they came top in the mobile recycle list for my iPhone 3GS. Went in to the Huddersfield store about 11am and I rated it as good condition - few scratches on the back but none on the screen and I had all the bits- original box, sim tray opener, charger and earphones. So the CEX website say £63 for poor, £65 for good and £76 for mint.
The store was clean and didn't smell and we were seen almost straight away. The guy on the counter looked at it, turned it on and said a value of £63 but it would have to be checked and to come back in an hour.
We told him it was fully working and had been used as recently as Thursday and that we'd read bad reviews about them coming up with faults but we agreed to come back in an hour.
An hour later and it had been tested and checked and he said £58. I questioned the value and told them on their website the poor condition was £63 and mine was good with all accessories so he says he'll speak to the valuer. He then comes back and says his mistake it is grade b and £63.00. For £2.00 between website poor and good condition I decided it wasn't worth arguing and accepted £63.00.
So all I can say is do your research and be prepared to state your case.

Took my unlocked BlackBerry Z10 (boxed, accessories pack unopened, and instruction book included) into my local store at lunchtime today. Was seen straightaway, was offered their top price of £223. Just waiting for the banks transfer now.

I was impressed with the service I've received so far, as I've been kept up to date with how the transaction/product testing has progressed through email.

Providing the payment comes through promptly (I'll update you on that in due course), I'd definitely use them again.

Forgot I posted on here. I can't fault the service I received. Payment appeared in my account within a day of receiving an email saying the phone I took in tested well. Very good stuff.

Though I'd try Cex to sell some old phones to as their list prices are much higher (unbelievably higher) than any other firm.

Read the reviews here and elsewhere. Thought they sounded dodgy, but decided to try with a sample single phone, just to see what happened. A never-used Motorola F3 that they list at £8. Ridiculously high price.

So I printed off the label. Packed it up. Sent it off last week. And today the postie's at the door asking me to sign for a Special Delivery. Which is? That Motorola phone. Opened, resealed, put in a jiffy bag and sent back Special Delivery. No message. No explanation.

So, a complete waste of my time, and of their money (their reply paid label, their return postage back to me SD - which would be, at over-the-counter rates, about £1.20 for the outward posting and £6.95 for the SD back again - so they seem to have no problem in spending!).

I don't think I'll bother trying them again!

My 18 month iPhone 4S was just off contract. I used it quite often but it had had a screen protector and case and was absolutely MINT for an iPhone. The website said £208 if mint with box etc.

I took it in and a guy looked at it and commented that there were a few very light signs of wear... I couldn't see any mark at all but he insisted it wasn't mint (despite other people saying how mint it was).
His manager overheard (a female) who came up and said a mint one would be UNUSED with headphones and plug unused and sealed. I commented this would be NEW and not MINT. She even suggested it had water damage which was absolute rubbish!

She also said the full value wasn't cash and was STORE CREDIT. If I wanted cash it was £156!!! Some difference from £208!!!

I left in disgust and walked around to Carphone warehouse who said the phone was absolutely A1 and offered me just shy of CEX top price, putting the money straight onto my debit card. What a different experience.

My opinion is that CEX are absolute crooks and the Glasgow store are a disgrace and basically ROBBERS!!!!

In my opinion DO NOT USE THIS STORE!!!

I bought 2 Kindle Touchs in April. One was in pretty good condition, the other had deep scratches on the screen and case and the data cable was was split open so that you could see the wiring inside.

I emailed, as per the instructions to say that I would be returning one and gave the reasons why. The reply took 3 days and gave instructions for the return. The refund then took 8 weeks.

The 1st time I emailed them for an update the response was that they had received more items than expected so refunds were taking longer than normal. The 2nd time my order had been pushed forward. The 3rd time they were working on completing the pending request as soon as possible. The 4th time I asked for a specific date and was told they couldn't give one but the order was being prioritised.

The following day I was on the phone to my credit card co. to raise a chargeback claim when I had an email from CEX saying that I needed to return the charger for them to process the refund. I pointed out that not only did THEY not supply a charger but the manufacturer doesn't supply one. I had no response but the refund was credited 3 days later.

The money saved is simply not worth the hassle of using a company like this.
  • Always taken my old gadgets,DVDs and games in store and always been offered the price off their site either for cash or store credit and never had any problems. It's best to take it in store rather than send via post as I don't trust Royal mail. :money: as I've been using them since their first store opened.

I had a look in Barnstaple CEX yesterday since my phone got stolen. They had a scratched S3 Mini for £210. Even new ones are cheaper than that!

I sent an old Samsung phone off to them a fortnight ago using their own prepaid label. It was received the next day, or so Royal Mails tracking tells me. So far I've had no contact from Cex at all so have raised an inquiry with them. I suspect I'm going to regret wasting my time with these people, but will update here what happens.
