Little Lights - Cinny's 2011 Diary

Why is it that 2 glasses of wine can leave you feeling as bad as 2 bottles?! I had a couple of glasses on Saturday night and had to take 2 paracetamol before bed because I knew I'd wake up at daft o'clock with a stinking head!
I'm finding the accent change quite funny! It's happened to me too in a way. I've only moved about half an hour down the road but it makes a difference! I was already a little bit Yorkshire although the town I lived near was more Northern in it's influences, people were more inclined to talk like they're from Middlesbrough but my town now is proper Yorkshire and I've definitely picked it up! My parents are horrified when I tell them something's int' something! Or I'm going t' a place! :rotfl:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. Whoops, sorry Swinstie!
Hope you're feeling better! I love Winter holidays, are you staying in the UK or tootling off abroad?
Hey Cinny, the only reason I'm loving winter holidays is because I'll be going to the sun - it'll be our honeymoon:D Two-week cruise around the Caribbean, can't wait.
I can sympathise with the two glassed of wine, I could have a whole bottle one night and be fine, but after one or two glasses, my head is pounding.
Can't find that Dave Ramsay podcast thing, watched the video on youtube of that couple but couldn't find anything else - any links?0 -
Dorf, how could I forget it's your honeymoon! It sounds lovely Swinstie
Only a little, teeny bit jealous!
You can subscribe to the Dave Ramsey podcast on iTunes, it's 'The Dave Ramsey Show' (imaginative, ey?) But that's just Debt Free Friday, it's the only one I really listen to cause one keeps me going all week plodding to work. But you can get the every day ones on his website.
Completely forgot to move money across for bills last night *dies* So my bank was -£3.22. I've never seen red on my bank before. Shizzlesticks! Moved the money back in to cover it though, fingers crossed I don't get any charges.
But anyways, that's us back ontop of the Sky bill. Waiting for BT to send me the bill so I can get that paid and we'll be all squared up :j
Not much else to report. Off for my weekly tea at Mums tonight after workBut before all that, I need to go sort the bins out! Funn!

I've been thinking about this most of the day, infact all of it. And I think I've got it to a point where I'm happy with the order, so here is. Our new P.O.A!:
Step 1 - Save £500 towards OH Insurance.
Step 2 - Save £100 for July Holiday.
Step 3 - Save £125 for my car tax. (Due 31st July, if come to it I'll pay for 6 months)
Step 4 - Take a break from 'bill' things. Save for a new bed.
Step 5 - Get our emergency fund up to £500.
Step 6 - Start saving to pay off OHs car loan.
Phew! Quite a lot of saving there. But it needs to be done, all of it. At least we have goals so we know where we've got to get at. There's a whole bunch of things to save for after that, but I figure 6 steps is enough for the moment. Then I can refresh at the end!
Soooo, obviously we're on Step 1 at the moment. If we split it down to months we need to save around £170 a pop. Daunting considering how tight things are, but we can do it I'm sure
Off to pop this on my first post. Just so I know where it is when it needs changing.
Hope everyone's having a nice day!0 -
Sounds like a good plan there Cinny. Is nice to break it into steps, makes it a bit less daunting!0
-
Hey Wendz! Yep, I'm thinking steps are the way forward for us. Sounds a lot prettier than just a list of things to do. Spoke to OH about it last night when I popped by to see him at work and he's on board so it's all systems go!
Moved £20 into the insurance fund this morning. Got our bill from BT (£19.98 seeing how they gave us a VAT refund :j) but it says they're taking payment from my account on Feb 8th. So that'll be covered by OHs end of Jan wages.
Also got passed down a table from my Grandparents. It's a dark oak so fits with the rest of the stuff in our living room, I think it's 1940s. It's simple but pretty, and sits nicely next to our spare chair with all our candles packed on top. So glad I took it, it's only other life option was to be sold at a Charity Shop where a woman with Laura Ashley paint pots would strip it down and cover up the lovely oak with white.
Quote for today! "Being poor is a frame of mind. Being broke is only a temporary situation."0 -
Well done for saving the table from the Laura Ashley-ites!
I like the quote too, very fitting!
How are you doing with step 1?Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I shouldn't bash the people who take 'tatty' old furniture and spruce it up to make it more modern, they'll be saving themselves a bundle and it is quite fun! Just it's nice to save a few from their grasps
Step 1 is okay, just the £20/500 at the moment but I've been doing a little maths on my lunch break and I think it'll be a lot easier than I thought. We can save £290 from my wages, £200 from our food budget if we keep spending at £30pw plus £150 from OHs wages. If it all goes to plan we'll have Step 1 and 2 saved for by the end of May, and can get a good head start on Step 3. 2 months ahead of my mental calendar. Would be so good!
Just watch it though, we'll have a massive unexpected bill and be back at square one0 -
The table sounds good! Ours is a bit of an antique as was in my Grandparents house and then was passed to my Mum and Dad and now we have it. Is good but slightly worried is going to fall apart haha.
I hate unexpected bills, I ended up buyng more petrol today I hadn't budgeted for grr.0 -
Haha, I'm sure it won't. I think it's pretty fab having bits of furniture passed through the family, people don't seem to do that too much anymore!
Still no money from the Cottage folks, despite them promising it would be in today. Hm. This is going to be one of those things! Giving them till Saturday, then OH is ringing up again. My MOT is on Monday, so I really could do with the refund! Keep telling myself, at least the money is on the way. I have no idea what we'd be doing right now if we weren't getting the refund. It could be worse.
My payday tomorrow, looking forward to going shopping! Its weird though, I used to be such a pointless spender and always finding reasons to go shopping, but now the weekly shop seems to fill that want completely. So we've done a meal plan last night, written up the shopping list (much longer than normal as we need soy sauce, cornflour, and honey ect for cooking) and we've got a £5 off voucher for Morrisons. We're all ready to goPlus OH is off work tomorrow, so he gets to come with. I hate pushing the trolley!
