If you got a basic account with Nat West then Barclays shouldn't be a problem - make sure you ask for the basic account then there shouldn't be a credit check - just an ID check

    Hope that helps :A

Found out today that I was given wrong advice from CCCS. I checked whether it would be ok to open a new account for my DMP with Natwest (as I have a MINT CC debt). I was told it would be fine. So Ive opened new account, arranged for salary to be swapped, along with direct debits. I spoke to CCCS today and the man I spoke has told me I need to open a new account because MINT can take money out of my Natwest account. It's actually a Natwest CC!! So I'm feeling pretty stressed and upset. I'm going to Barclays on Friday and just hoping that they will let me have a basic bank account, as it's no long ago I opened one with Natwest. And what if I fail a credit check now??:(

Just feels such a mess and I was trying so hard :(:( And now I'm going to be worrying until Friday!!:(
Oh thats a right pain, you were so organised. I'm sure it'll be ok though especially as basic bank account. It's naughty of CCCS to give wrong advice.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

M&S Money are one of my creditors - and have been the nicest and easiest to deal with!

  • Newbie here too but not a newbie to debt I'm ashamed to say. I've been on a DMP for over a year and it has given me my sanity back! Although as it stands it will take me 'til I'm 82 to clear it all !! Just so you know Angel, wisdom doesn't always come with age - as I'm in my early 50s and shoulda known better. Good luck hun x
  • Thanks Shoe Gal and Squirrel.

The man at CCCS did apologise that I'd been given wrong advise before and was very helpful, but still a hassle I don't need. Plus the fact he said 'change banks within the next 2 weeks' made me panic. I think I was becoming highly agitated when the lady in Barclays gave me an appointment in 2 weeks time, but fortunately I now have one Friday.

Only problem is I'm pretty sure Natwest did a credit reference check on me, even though I said all along I only wanted a basic account. I'm going to be upfront with Barclays about the DMP. If they say no to me I'll cry! Then maybe they will take pity on me .... Yes, I'm a desperate woman!!

Sorry to hear that you have had such a bad time lately, don't loose hope just yet. From all the threads i have read, most banks offer a basic account without a credit check. So hope all goes well at Barclays for you. Will be thinking about you this week and hope you manage to get some good quality rest.

    Best wishes Dolly x ;)

I've just been on Justabank which is Payplans online system. It's interesting to see what they are offering each creditor. I feel quite empowered now but still slightly jittery at not having credit card at my disposal in case something goes wrong this month and I run out of cash.

I did ok today, I took my car through car wash but half way through cycle the machine broke down twice! I was in a rush so decided to put up with a slightly foamy car and got my money back. I never thought I'd see the day when I was so excited to get £2.75 back! And my car looked pretty clean anyway at the end!

Good to hear you're feeling empowered. I totally understand your feelings about not having a credit card. I find that quite scary. Although I'm sure it's because we are used to having them.

Good result on your car! :) It's funny how the MSE way and having that LBM can transform your thinking totally!

    Hi B17c

You never what might be round the corner, or how things can change. At least you're working towards sorting out your finances - that is a very postive thing:)

If I were you, I wouldn't ring M&S - simply because so many people on here say you should only deal with creditiors in writing.

I've not heard from any creditors (yet). The man at CCCS said that it might take weeks for them to write to me, or they may not write at all. I know now when CCCS sent out their letters to my creditors.

Take it one day a time ...
