New series just started on BBC2, aimed at beginners. Looks quite interesting. Anyone watching?

Put it on sky+ & series linked it:)

She's an ex-model, among other interesting jobs.

My baking must haves would be

    Plain flour
    Self raising flour
Strong white bread flour (if youre into making bread)
    Baking powder
    Bicarb
    Vanilla extract - good quality
    Caster sugar

I never buy caster sugar, I buy regular sugar & whizz it in the blender:money:

the 1.5kg bag of sugar from poundland is finer than the usual granulated sugar from supermarkets and is fine for baking.

One thing that I noticed was that she attached the cigarillos to the cake board as well as the cake but didn't explain how you were supposed to cut the cake.

Someone mentioned cram of tartar - baking powder is a combination of bicarbinate of soda and cream of tartar - 2-1 I think.
  • I'm off to watch it on player now, thanks for posting.

I imagine I would gleam a fair bit from it being a semi beginner, I can bake but just basic stuff and still need the recipe for short bread!

Did anyone notice the mixer she used didn't mix properly?? Or was I just imagining it lol!!
  • aaaah now see this is where she's good.... I didn't know to push a wooden spoon handle into the flan case pastry.

She's alright. I'll watch it again just to learn the basics but I can see how the more experienced baker/cook would be a bit *yawn*

I liked her but not sure of the content, as others have said, will give her another week or two. Those choc cigarillos are gross, sis bought me a birthday cake with them all around the side - I picked them all off and threw then away! - really spoilt the cake for me; would have been great if it had been cadbury choc fingers

is she an ex model because she's been testing too many of her cakes?:D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

the cake doesnt necessarily cut neatly (as I have had a similar one bought for me in the past) but I thought it looked really amazing for the fact that you didnt have to be too precise and the cigarillos and fruit covered any imperfections

I think we have to remember the title 'baking made easy'. Many people arent experienced in baking and it can seem a bit daunting. I think its aimed at them. I have to say my husband and I were quite sniffy at the start but Sky Plus'd it by the end. Ive always wanted to make soda bread but was put off by not wanting to buy cream of tartar so it was good to see it made simply
