I used fox choc creams & walnuts and they were gorgeous. I sort of used a combination of both recipes, and used Asda chocolate for cooking - 2 bars for £1, half bars of dark and milk choc. It made it a lot cheaper and no complaints at all. My first time at making brownies so quite pleased with them.0

I LOVE vanilla bean paste!
A 310g bottle contains the equivalent to over 30 pods. Not bad value really when you consider that I've never seen a pod under £1.00 (in fact Asda has the cheapest at £2.50 for two). The bottle I've got costs £14.25 (43p/portion). On offer, they were £9.00 (27p).
You also get the prettiness of the beans and without the harshness of the alcohol in vanilla essence.
Do you get this one?

YesJust had about a teaspoon of lemon juice to half a pint of milk and leave for a few minutes before using.
Have to be honest though, I do buy buttermilk for soda bread as I think it has a particular taste - might be an Irish thing though as I was raised on it
Plain yoghurt does the trick just as well if you have any going spare.0 -
That's the one I have and it lasts ages. I usually use extract in cakes and biscuits but paste in things like rice pudding and ice cream where the flecks look really interestingFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

I always think yogurt is an odd substitute.
Yogurt is quite thick & buttermilk is thin.0 -

Give it a go and let us know how you get on. I give it a good shake so you "see" it curdling.
I think (and i'm no chemist) it's something to do with how it reacts with the other ingredients. I make wheaten bread all the time and it is highly lusted after!:p
(this recipe from pink - it's fandabbydozy!):D:rotfl::beer:A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
