What I done today is - I took a reading 03391189 then I went in and flushed the toilet. it's changed to 03391201

So that means the meter is the correct way around(but wrong colour) and you used 12 litres in flushing the toilet.

    Your correct reading is 03391.201

So on 15 Dec your reading was probably 03385.81? That means you have used approx 6.6 cubic metres.

Was the reading by UU of 576 on 10 Dec an estimate? (will have an 'E') Frankly something is still very wrong!

Good question though. Oki against the reading on the bill what does it say ? A or E ? Or some other code letter/ number ?

Did you see UU reading it or are you only guessing based on getting a bill ?

The bill dated for 11 December was:
Current reading 576 read by us on 10 December
    10
Previous reading 547 read by us on 29 May 10
    Total used 29 cubic metres
Volume charge 29 cubic metres at £1,374 each

    The bill dated 15 December:
Current reading 551 read by you on 10 December 10
Previous reading 547 read by us on 29 May 10
    Total used 4 cubic metres.

No, it doesn't say "E". It's says "read by us"

You do need to go back to UU..lol

I think the best thing is make the appointment and get someone there with you to look at it .

    Mmmm,
Are they reading the correct meter for your house? (you are sure you have the correct meter - the toilet flushing exercise indicates you are)

You need to check that the meter serial number on the bill is the same as your meter!

You don't by any chance live in flats? - not unusual for this situation to go undetected for years!!

Firstly check the serial number of meter and bill are the same.

The meter reader serial number was covered with a moisture and I simply couldn't see it.

You need to get UU to visit.

Presumably the meter is external to your flat?

It is located outside of the building, on the pavement.
