Hi Peonie, what sort of challenges are you looking for? You could join the mortgage free in three thread, haven't been on it for a while so apologies if you already have..
You can set a challenge to increase savings or reduce your mortgage or a mixture of the two..Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Today has been another long work day and I expect it will be the same again tomorrow. I. Am. Tired. I brought work home again tonight but I've left it in my bag. Today I spent £2.90 on food, there was not any 'sell by' food, but I did take a packed lunch to work (4/5).
Hi Shala, I've looked through a few pages tonight and could not find MFit-3. I was thinking about little challenges that will help me to save money or even make a little. There used to be a thread on here, it kept all the list of challenges up to date and provided links to them all. But I don't think it's updated anymore.
I used to be part of a take your lunches to work challenge. I'm still doing the buy no new toiletries challenge despite not being part of the official challenge and I've not reported how I've been doing on here. Probably because, apart from shampoo and deodorant, I'm still going through my supplies from a year and a half ago.

HERE is current one which ends in Dec.
Clever that :rotfl:. The new one had dropped down to page 3 which is great - shows how many people there are on here nowadays :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi, I would love to know how much money we are, collectively, saving in interest.

Today I spent about £7 on 'sell by' food. Unfortunately some of that was on microwave meals. I did take my lunch to work (5/5).
Hi GG, thanks for finding the list, I've been looking at the numbers and I think reducing the mortgage to £130,000 is comfortable based on current spending, saving priorities, no sprogs and the hope of a foreign holiday. If we had sprog(s) it would be tight.
I found the 2012 challenge list if anyone is interested: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3708739
Hi Tilly, yes it would be a big incentive to work it out. That's why I like the overpayment calculator so much. I read an article recently that said in a few years there will be more homeowners without a mortgage than those with. It also said something like, the banks need us so they can lend to the next generation. Hmmm, I think they'll get our business from savings so they'll be OK.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

Hi Peonie, with the people on the MF site, the £ in mortgage debt, and the amount of OPs, must in some way make a dent in the banks profits. I am not sure why I feel quite so strongly about this, but we have paid a fortune in interest over the years. I think we will save something on the region of £40k ish in interest by paying it off early. That just one family, extrapolate that across the forum and boy there's some big numbers :T
Less money for the banks definitely puts a smile on my face

Trouble is Tilly, there are a lot more people on the DFW board than there are on here.

Hi GG, that's a very valid point sadly, Tilly2004 £387k 29 years - MF March 2033:eek:

Hopefully the DFW board is helping them out and giving them the inspiration like this board is giving us the MFWers. By the DFWers paying back their debts early the banks, are likely to, lose a lot more interest than they are getting from us.
Today has been another NSD. I finally went into the attic to find an old tea dress that I might be able to use for the 40's party. Do you recall they were in fashion about 8 years ago. If mum says it's fine then I only need to buy tights. I'm shocked I fit in it. Result.
I spent a few hours in the garden, filled the green bin but there's still so much to do. I identified another bush that can be cut back hard but Mr P claims he did not hear me calling him. Hmmm, that's his story.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

Happily I thought I had woke early. Only a few minutes ago I find out my clock, which automatically updates the time, had put the clock back 2 hours. Hmph.
Today could be a spend day. We're going to my parents for dinner and I really should offer to take something like dessert. Although I did buy a lot of 'sell by' vegetables last week so I could take them if needed.
