Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Thanks jeff57 - I knew there was a damn good convincing reason!!

Can you believe the nerve of them?

I called BT and they checked my line and said I am free to switch and do not need a MAC code - so who to pick?
  • That's brilliant news guys, well done to all those who kept on fighting. Big thanks for Essex for the deadten site.

Personally I would recommend o2, they have been brilliant for me and it's something like £7.38 a month now if you've got an o2 phone. If you can get it then it's well worth it.

Phoned Breathe and basically they claimed they had placed a cease order last week on all our accounts and that is why cannot give a MAC code.
Strange - why was the web page only made available last night (complete with spelling mistakes) and gave the option of getting MAC code? Why weren't we told we were being disconnected?

Why the option available to the 15th?

I think OFCOM ought to be told.

Can anyone give me a convincing reason why I would sign up with Breathe?

I can give you any number of reasons why NOT to sign up with them, mainly they are affiliated with NJP who are/were affiliated with Fast internet group, who are/were affiliated with Redten, who are/were affiliated with Clode, need I go on?

We have all been turned over by this happy band of whatever descriptive you would like to insert, they are just moving on to the next layer, get out whilst you can, and change to a supplier who will let you sleep at night.

An O2 pay as you go phone will do, you do have to put £10 on it every three months to qualify for the discount, but you'll still be about £4.89 a quarter better off even if you don't use the airtime!

O2 own/use bethere's network, so it might be worth checking Be out too https://www.bethere.co.uk/

Also check quidco, I think they have a generous cashback offer for both.

If I could get Be/02 around here I'd consider switching to them myself, but I'm currenlty on Sky's Max broadband package which is excellent anyway.

    Very good advice!
  • I have been caught in the Red10 / Fat Cat / Clode, and who ever else should be in the list. But am released now.

I called Clode, got straight through to Technical and was told i would be released from my contract. I didn't even have to get "firm".

I got the MAC by letter and email and am now released from my contract with them. Thankfully.

I guess this will teach me not to be tempted by an unknown ISP offering something that seems unbelievable.

I signed up with O2 now and am very happy - fantastic customer service and text messages at every step of the way through the order.

You don't have to be in an O2 area, although to get the really cheap price you do; you can get the home service without being in an O2 area, which is basically BT Wholesale. That's what I got and it costs £17 a month, unlimited and up to 8Mbit and a free wireless router.

Hope that helps anyone in the same boat

Clode called me back and said that Redten is no more. I pointed out that I had paid for three years until Feb 2010.
They will see if they owe me any money!!! Bet I will get to keep PC instead!!!
Goodbye and thanks for all the fish!!!

Just realised first posted on 27th March 2008. Doesn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself?

id ask for the money & ask them to collect PC, 1 years money will buy a better laptop now-a-days than you got from Redten, how did you pay ? if it was Visa your in luck, a letter/email confirming package details/cease will get you a 100% refund
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Signing in for the last time on this thread - I am now contract free :)

Goodbye Redten/Clode/NJP/FatCat or whoever you are - it cost me £50 for the priviledge but I was feeling flush and was desparate to get out it was all done and dusted within 3 minutes. Now have the confirmation letter of closure, and have been with Virgin for just over 9 months now (although I will be changing again at my earliest convienience to BT probably - I need reliable bb)

    So long - I'm off, sayonara, :)
  • I too am pleased to say that I am now free of redten and am now with post office phone and broadband, less than £25 monthly inclusive of line rental, unlimited broadband and evening and weekend calls. Was the best deal for me as the local exchange is still tied to BT and most other providers charge more for their service even though you still have to pay BT for the line rental. Word of caution though, if you wish to pay monthly by direct debit with the post office, make sure that when you place the order you set it up on the first sales call or else the rep will put you on quarterly advance payment without telling you! If there is anyone still with redten, good luck and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel.
