Spoke to NJP and it looks like only certain accounts have been asked to be closed, I was a (stupid) bloke that paid 3 years in advance. I have no agreement with Clode but a credit card payment to Redten. I'm pretty stuck having paid in advance and then being asked to pay again / as soon as I move I novate any rights to my paid in advance service.

I'm in same position. [Had to get the dictionary out for 'novate'!]. I may be proved wrong but I really cannot see how card company cannot pay up given RT have had >3mo to sort out the 1st contract breach.

Thanks for the warnings from others on NJP - I'll certainly checkout the getout clause with the new service. I just cannot afford to be without a service again, even if it's a bit crap while I look around properly.

    Hi all
I've been with Redten since January 2007. Everything was delivered ok, broadband was fast and reliable. I had no reason to contact Redten until March this year when the message from BT appeared on my screen. I contacted Redten and Clode and had no reason not to believe their story about BT. Within 14 days everything was back up and running smoothly with the promise of one extra months broadband at the end of the three years as compensation. (A bit lame I agree.)

I had a letter yesterday from Fatcat saying that my broadband was now through them. The letter has been on the forum but as far as I can see the package is the same. As long as I keep getting the high speed and the fair usage download I'm happy.

I hadn't realized there was such a huge thread on MSE about Redten. I don't have the time to go back through the whole thread, so can anyone summarize what the problem is that so many of you seem to have had? Have I been lucky in some way? Am I naiive? If I am missing something I would love to know so I can take steps to protect myself.
    Cheers

Just seen the walled garden message from NJP. It repeats the content of the email they sent yesterday except that the service ceases now instead of 30 June.
    They are offering
    1) switch to them at a cost of £10 for 1GB/mo or £17 for 15GB/mo or £24(?) for 30GB/mo
    2) get a MAC and go elsewhere
    3) wait and see what Redten come up with
Personally, I'm switching to NJP for a month while I look around so at least I don't have a service break. Cannot see how my credit card company can but pay up for the balance of my advance payment.

Strange I can still log in to NJP panel and everything is back like bandwidth useage the option to close account seems like it would work instead of the old in contract message and all my Redten @mails still work even though I migrated to BT a month ago ??

If you want to know about get out conditions and costs look at Fast4 TC,s as they will be the same
    Who cares ??

Just a guess, but I reckon it's the RT customers who paid upfront who've been dumped. Interested to hear if any Clode customers are affected. If I'm right then it really, really stinks (even worse than before).
  • I didn't pay up front, in fact didn't pay anything apart from the £49.99 'connection fee'. I have used my MAC code to apply to join BT Broadband Option 3 and I am due to be switched over on 30 June. I too, however, have been booted off by NJP today and so will probably be without internet access until next Monday unless NJP respond to my pleas to reinstate my connection for 6 days!

I certainly don't want to join one of the other NJP 'brands' as I'm sure that would nullify my BT order and would need a further MAC code to leave...

Be Careful, in fact be very careful, they seem to be as slippery as redten, and equally as ruthless, the Fast internet brand has a long history of poor customer relations, and from my own dealings with them when I was trying to get a mac code, they were stupendously awkward, in fact they can wallow in the fact that during the whole of this fiasco, they are the only ones who I lost my rag with on the phone, and actually swore at the idiot (professed to be the customer relations manager) on the other end of the phone.

My advice is get your Mac and get the hell out of the circus, fight for your money back from another providor if you need to.

Good Luck with whatever you decide, but choose wisely.

you will get a copy of their defencse in the post, If I was you I would let it continue to court as they don't have a leg to stand on, chances are though that if you contact them they will almost certainly want to make a deal, just make sure it's in your favour, after all you have done nothing wrong, they have..

Thanks essex, I received their defence this morning in the post. The infamous Nick Davies has signed to say that the dispute has been resolved and the account cleared in full.

However, I'm not happy that they took money from my account when they weren't providing me a service. I've written Louise a reply to her original letter informing me of the voiding of the contract, which goes a little something like this -

Thank you for your letter dated 19th June 2008 regarding the closing of my account with you. I note that I am now released from the contract and any payments requested of me in future have been voided which I am pleased to hear.

However, I am not satisfied that I have paid for 3 months worth of broadband service from Redten Internet which I did not receive. I did not cancel my direct debit as I was afraid of the damage it could do to my credit history and you continued to take payments in April, May and June even though my broadband service was ceased on 10th March 2008. I would therefore request that a total of £59.97 be returned to me, via cheque or bank transfer, as soon as possible as these payments were taken by you for a service that I was not getting from you.

I also request that the court costs of £35 for raising the claim to you be paid by you, as I have no doubt that had I not served these court papers, this account would not have been dealt with.

That makes a total payment of £94.97 for costs that have arisen from the bad customer service I have experienced from your company and Redten Internet. I believe I am within my rights to request this amount for the inconvenience I have had to endure throughout this whole situation.

If this matter is not resolved to my satisfaction, I will have no option but to continue my court claim against you to recover this amount.

    Sincerely,

I've got a month to reply to the court, so that gives me some time to play the waiting game and whether or not to go ahead to court, I won't, but still, it's nice to make them sweat :rotfl:I only want the money they took back, that's all, but I might aswell try for the court fees aswell. Was gonna request the 3 months alternative broadband service aswell, but thought that was pushing it a bit :rotfl:
