That sounds fab- love the sound of your cupcakes, they're going to look really cute. :)

Nothing wrong with pink- defo doesn't mean tacky! I guess people associate pink with Jordan and her outrageously tacky wedding, but that wasn't tacky because of the pink! I envy your decisiveness, we still haven't picked our colours so can't do save the dates or look for dresses or centrepieces or anything until we do!!

I originally wanted to have something from Lush for favours, but am finding it hard to pick something that everyone would like. I then thought I'd like to do charity favours, but wasn't sure if guests would appreciate a pin badge/ key ring/ trolley token. However, I've just discovered you can just make a donation and get cards from cancer research saying "a donation has been made to cancer research to celebrate the marraige of Janet & John on Augsut 25th 2012", and then attach the cards to something else. So we could potentially have 2 favours- the cancer research tags and then some sweets/something from Lush.

It is so hard to decide what the majority would like, and I think it would get too complicated to start doing different favours for different people. Decisions, decisions.

Hi Tiara, for our favours we are just doing little organza bags filled with sweets, you can't always please everyone, we wanted to do something cheap, we looked into almonds but they worked out quite expensive so that why we are doing dolly mixtures, it ties in with our colour scheme (fuschia pink organza bags) and also the dolly mixtures tie in with our cupcakes which are going to be decorated with buttercream and then dolly mixtures :-)
As for the bridesmaid dresses they are fushia pink, but they are really nice and elegant looking! When I tell people I am having pink they automatically think it's gonna be tacky but it's not lol xx

I quite like the idea of getting personalised love heart wrappers, but they work out quite expensive. Will add them to the list of maybes! Do you save much money by getting them from a wholesalers? I haven't looked into that at all, was just working out the price based on when they're on special offer in Tescos :o

Hobby craft sell bags of them for £9.99 and there 400g bags,i get 3kg bags from wholesalers for i think under £15 if i remember right.i am a crafter by trade so use wholesalers for a lot so does work out cheap for me always worth a look in there or you can go to a wholesalers called hancocks which is a pure confectionary warehouse but again u need to be a registered business or if you have someone who has a business they can sign up for you and get u a card

Also you could print the wrappers yourself,im not gonna bother as people will just rip them open and eat them so seems a wasteful expense

    Hey guys,

haven't been on in ages, sounds like lots of you have been busy. I was just getting into the swing of planning cakes, decorations etc when we started hearing lots of rumours about our venue going out of business and owing other companies in the area lots of money. So, do we pull out now and lose our deposit or worst case find out a couple of months before wedding that they have gone bust and have a complete nightmare reorganising everything?
Decided to pull out (although we haven't cancelled with them yet to leave options open) but we are looking elsewhere. OH and all his family would like us to get married abroad. Brilliant in theory but a complete nightmare. Hardly any of my family can afford it and so any savings we would have made will be spent getting them abroad. Then it's finding where to actually get married. Decided on cyprus as the carribean etc would be too far but there are about 5 million hotels! Everytime I find one I like someone else jumps in saying it has had a bad review or we should look for somewhere cheaper. I've looked almost a month at hotels in cyprus and am fed up to the point I literally don't want to think about it and to be honest would rather run done the registry office next week and get it over and done with!

Sorry for the rant ladies but help! Anyone else just feel completely overwhelmed by it? I've gone from knowing exactly what was happening to not even knowing if I want to get married :(

Oh bless you jellybean, that sounds a nightmare
For what it's worth, I think you've done the right thing by looking for alternatives to your original venue. Even if you have insurance, if the venue had shut down having taken all your money right before the wedding it would have been horrendous

You say that your OH and your OH's family want to get married abroad, but what about what you want? If you're not happy with the idea then it's not too late to look for an alternative venue in the UK. It can be easy to get bulldozed into things, but if you're not happy then you need to be strong and put your foot down now before it's too late.

If YOU want to get married in Cyprus, then hopefully there will be people on here that could make some recommendations about where to stay/ get married, and give you some feedback on their own weddings. Might be worth creating a separate thread asking for their advice :)
It also sounds like your OH's family are giving you lots of feedback, but I'm not sure how helpful this is. If you find a hotel you like the look of that has 99 good reviews, it is not helpful for them to be pointing out the one bad review from 1996! As for pricing- you and your OH are in charge of the budget ;) They can't expect to be calling all the shots, it just isn't fair on you :grouphug:

thank you hun, I just needed someone to listen. Everytime I say anything to OH apparently I shouldn't be getting stressed and I'm just being emotional. It just takes me a while to get my head around the changes and I need more time to think about what I want but you're right, I shouldn't be steamrolled. I want to enjoy planning our wedding not be sitting here crying about it.
