August 2012 Brides and Grooms

Hello everyone,
How are you all getting on with the planning? I couldn't get interested in it for a while but went wedding dress shopping over Easter and that got me back into it! Am going to be fitted for it on Saturday, can't wait. Other than that have just arranged insurance and booked a date to meet with a company who provide chair covers, table centers etc.

Saw the Groom's auntie yesterday, she is doing all the balloons. DD has decided not to have chair covers now as we are only having a buffet (saved me £178!) Went along to the venue for her Hen night, gorgeous food. She is having a joint one with her cheif bridesmaid as she is getting married in September and they have loads of joint friends! Looks like there will be 50 or more of us:)
As long as I get my "Mother of the Bride" T-shirt, I don't mind!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

How is everyone doing?
We're seeing a florist tomorrow to discuss ideas- which should be interesting, seeing as we haven't settled ona colour scheme yet, and have no idea what kind of bouquet of centrepieces we we want. She has asked us both to do a mood board- when my bf stopped laughing at the thought, he flatly refused, and I don't really know where to start with mine as I really don't know what I want!! I am hoping she will give us some ideas!0 -

If you've got anything ordered/bookmarked/filed under 'pretty stuff for wedding' just get all the pictures together and see if that inspires you. Seeing everything together might show that they all have a common theme which is hard to see when they're separate.
If you haven't, go on a few wedding websites, jewellery websites, home decor websites and save all the pictures you like and use those. The florist just wants to see what your taste is, whether it's ultra modern, minimalist, romantic, vintage, etc. Also, get a few pictures of the venue in there too.
Mood boards are ace once you get going! You might even prompt your H2B to have some input, even if it's just what kind of suit he wants to wear, and whether he wants to veto any kind of pink!!

Thanks so much for the advice. I had lots of links saved for wedding stuffs, but it hadn't occured to me to use them for the mood board . I also wouldn't have thought of using a pic of the venue, yet it's so important to have one of the hall as it's the vibe of the hall that all the centrepieces need to match iykwim!
Mood board is now complete- very much a mismatch of different colours and flowers that I like, but the florist said we can delete bits as we get a better idea of what we want, so that we are just left with the final ideas
Thanks again for your helpWhite_Sapphire wrote: »If you've got anything ordered/bookmarked/filed under 'pretty stuff for wedding' just get all the pictures together and see if that inspires you. Hello neenaww  Have you found a box for your dress yet my dear?
The florist was lovely and really knew her stuff. However I have now completely gone off pretty much everything she is quoting for us so feeling a bit frustrated and deflated about that!!
I don't want a cream bouquet. I am worried if the flowers are not the exact shade of my dress that they will make my dress look dirty. I am worried they will blend into my dress in the photos, and I am worried that cream roses would show any bruises- I want it to look good for the whole day, and it it gets any knocks- which it is bound to- then cream roses would spoil.
My favourite flowers are freesias, I would love to have lots of them as they smell beautiful and they are the first flowers that my bf gave to me, so they are special to us. However, the florist said these are filler flowers, and I'd need to pick another flower to be the main flower.
I would like a blue bridesmaid dress, but this doesn't go terribly well with freesias as "blue" freesias are actually purpley lilac, so I don't think they would compliment a blue dress.
Added to which our venue is very dark, so she recommended lots of light, pale pastelly colours, which would look fine in the reception, but I don't want a pastelly bouquet or a pastelly bridesmaid dress. She said red roses are a no no as they are too dark and wouldn't show up well in photos, which is a shame as I love red roses as well!
I think the main problem is I don't know how to match up my ideas for a bouquet with decorating the venue. I don't want to compromise and have a plain bouquet that goes well with the venue decorations, but I also don't want decorations that don't work with the reception room. Confused.com!!0 -
Hi Tiara
Box ... No :-( not yet. My advice re the flowers is if you want red roses, have them, just find another florist! I agree freesia's are gorgeous but they are quite small so maybe she is right re those, but I would deffo go for a second opinion on her advice if you really want what you want!
Good luck chick, keep me informed![STRIKE]

To be fair, she seemed to really know her stuff... she said if it was a December wedding then we could go straight in with red roses, but as it is summer, we would need to use them as the darkest colour in our spectrum, and bring in cerises and pinks through to white. Any kind of pink is a definite no no, as both of us dislike pink, so that is not an option.
Our reception venue is very dark- the windows are small and very high up, so the light is limited, and there are dark wooden walls and tables. I would hate to go against her advice, have red roses at the venue and then for it to be dark and gloomy and the photos of them come out pants!
The other issue is that oh doesn't want red as our rival footie team play in red :rotfl:
Good luck with the box hunting. Are you taking it as hand luggage? If so, it might be worth looking into some kind of cover, as the box may be smaller than the max dimensions for hand luggage. Or you could just wear it on the plane, at least that way you would get a decent luggage allowance!! :rotfl:Hi Tiara
