I also have another milestone which is that I have sufficient savings in my offset account to bring the capital on which interest is being paid to below £100K. It won't stay that way for more than 3 months or so because that figures includes dividends to support me for the next few months and savings for my South America adventure, but it is quite satisfying nevertheless.
That's great news :T. Then the next milestone will be to get in back below 100k and stay there, then 95k etc. Always something to aim for. V exciting for me at end of month as 2 of our mortgages drop into a lower thousand in the same month
. Where in SAmerica are you going?

Hello GG, that's exciting news about your two mortgages!
I'm meeting a friend who is spending 6 months travelling around Sth America, although I'll only be going for a couple of weeks. I'll meet her in Rio or Sao Paulo and then we'll have a wander around the south of Brazil together. It should be GREAT!!! :j
This week has been incredibly expensive  I've been out a lot, so have been eating in restaurants and buying rounds of drinks  at the pub. I went to the moves AND to a concert at the Albert Hall, and I also had therapy and acupuncture today. But it's all good, one has to live!
The best thing to happen this week is my kitchen and bathroom floors have been installed!!!!!! Oh frabjous day, calloo callay!
They both look greatI might take some photos tonight and post them.

Foo! it has been an expensive couple of weeks, unfortunately. Work has been manic, and there has been lots of socialising. I find when work is crazy busy I buy my lunch a lot more often, which isn't helping.
I have also bought a very expensive tempur pillow, but it was worth every penny as I am now sleeping much better.
I am also having more work done around the house! Just handy-man type stuff, but with no man in my life, I have to pay for it... which does't worry me, I'd rather pay it and have it done! I now have a new fence (the old one rotted over winter) and Andy (yes, Handy Andy, lol!!) is also building me a storage shed in the garden as well as a few other bits and pieces. I'm very pleased, it looks great, and tomorrow I MUST plant out the raspberries in their new spot otherwise they will die.
I can't believe how dry it is. I really hope it rains this weekend!Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Hello all, I've just had a very cheap (!) holiday in Italy with my brother's in-laws... it is lovely being there for the first 3 or 4 days, but after that all the people talking loudly at the top of their voices in a language I only partially understand becomes a bit overwhelming! It's good to be home in the (relative) peace.
I'm taking the rest of the week off work as a little 'holidayette' - I'll just be pottering around the house, mostly.
I'm dead tired today as we were up at 4am to get an early morning flight but didn't get home until 11.30pm last night! There were reasons for my madness, but I won't go into them now as it is too complicated!
So, moneysaving news... I'm getting a mid-week lodger! He's one of my colleagues who lives in Scotland, but works mid-week in London. At the moment work pays him to stay in hotels 3 - 4 nights a week, but he hates it, so we agreed he could stay with me. I think I should be able to charge work the maximum tax free amount, but they will still make significant savings... it's a win win win situation for everyone!
I managed lose my reading glasses coming home from the airport last nightbut I went into sp3csavers and have bought another pair for £25. They should be ready either tomorrow afternoon or Saturday. Phew!
I have spent another £1700 on the house and garden... I really should stop as I can't imagine that I am increasing the value of the flat by that amount. In fact, Zoopla tells me it is now worth £15K less than I paid for it! Ouch! Thank goodness it is a long term investment and thank goodness for MSE and the MFW forum for inspiring me to get the mortgage down as much as possible!
However, the garden fence looks fantastic, and I now have a lovely little storage shed tucked under the outside stairs which Andy made to measure. He will also be putting spaces between the decking planks so that hopefully the deck will be less slippery in future.
well, I think that is my news for the moment... there is quite a lot happening! I hope everyone had a great Easter too.Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Oh.. gardening news... the raspberries seem to have survived their move, and hopefully I will get some raspberries off them. I have managed to find my pet safe organic slug and snail pellets, and have spread them around the garden. I'll plant my beans and courgettes tomorrow if it isn't raining.... although I secretly hope it will rain, we really need it!
The wild strawberries were pretty much destroyed by the fence-building, but enough have survived that they will spread and I should get a crop again this year too. The roses are all looking very happy and I managed to get rid of most of the aphids seen so far. I MUST fertilise the roses tomorrow, too.Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Glad you had a nic holiday I just love Italy the food the nature everything really.
I wouldn't say £1700 is that much to pay for something that will give you great pleasure and use out of it.
I am also loving the rain it's great for our new seeded lawn bits.Save £12k in 25 No 49
