I am definitely leaning towards a round top table... thoughts?
Just a quick post- We are having a round table for our head table, and we will be sitting with her chief bridesmaid and boyfriend, best man and a couple who we are really good friends with. Oh didnt want the traditional table set up because his parents are divorced (so are mine but my step dad gets father of the bride duties so it wouldnt have been a problem for me) and so we decided to sit with those we are closest to, and then decided it would be more sociable to be on a round table.0 -
On the thoughts of round tables . . . do you think they are more socialable than a huge square or a U shape? We will be having 30 guests max (2 of those are children) and i really cant decide what shape to have. The dining room is small and cosy so i thought a U shape might suit as everybody can see each other and no one will have their backs to anyone, but that said, the guests then will probably only talk to the people either side of them. So maybe round would be better . . . oh now i'm confused. Help!!!!!!!
Still its Half Term tomorrow so i get to recharge my batteries for a week. I plan on making a start on creating my invitations.0 -
I think our table will be something like a wide H - we've got thirty including us and a babe in arms, and a toddler.0

Morning ladies!
On the subject of top tables - we are having a long top table with round tables for guests arranged in a sort of horse shoe shape (i'll see if I can find a pic) so that everyone will be able to see us. I think it's nice to be sociable and we did think about a round table, but it's also imortant that everyone can see the bride and groom and those giving speaches. I've been at a few weddings where we couldn't see the top table at all - which was rubbish!
It can be hard to find a layout that includes everyone and sometimes there is a 'crap' table (which we were definitely on at OH's cousin's wedding! :rotfl:) but usually you can find a shape where all your guests can feel part of everything.
I also want to be able to look out on all our guests and see everyone enjoying themselves!...That's just me though - it's all about what will work in your venue. x0 -
we are having a long table for the top table and round tables for the rest of our guests.
Today I received a letter saying that my wedding dress is ready to be collected. I am really excited but sad at the same time. My Nan passed away on Wed and it just reminded me that she is never going to see me in it.
At least my Nan got to find out that I am having a son, and she is the one that actually chose his name, which both me and my partner liked. Her memory will live on in him xx0 -
Evening everyone!! Wooo hooo it's half term!!
Eeeeek 1 and a bit sleeps till we go on our pre-moon!!
(The 'and a bit' cause let's face it I'm going to be a tad too excited to get much sleep tomorrow night - we need to leave here around 3am anyway).
I really want something formally wedding to do. But everything is pretty much ironed out that I haven't got anything to sort out. For the time being anyway. Boo hiss!
I really do need to pull my finger out though with my weight - I am the same weight as I was give or take a pound since the end of the Summer hols so that is 7 weeks wasted. Half of the time it'd take me to get rid of this extra weight - lol I'm rubbish! Will get my head into gear when we get back from our pre-moon.
re: spreadsheets - I am a geek.
(Actually I found out exactly how much of a geek I am today - I realised that one of the first things I did when I got my new phone was to see whether the calculator on it was a good one or not - ie whether it was scientific and followed 'Bodmas'.
This is mine: (Green rows = came under budget, Red rows = came over budget)
(now clearly some of these columns are showing a saving - like the Registry Office one - because at the moment we haven't spent anything on that yet).
At the bottom I have all the columns totaled so I can see how much I've spend so far, how much I'm under budget, and how much I've saved compared to RRP (or the cost of having someone do things for me).0 -
Tracey - I am so sorry to read about your Nan. It is incredibly sad that these great women who had such a massive impact on who we became as adults won't be there in person to share the day, see the dress, eat the cake etc. However I am absolutely sure that her memory will live on in every person who comes to your wedding who met her, or who was similarly influenced by her. In that respect she will most definitely be there on the day.
It is so lovely that she was able to share your joyous news with you, and I think it is the greatest tribute you could give her - for her to be able to choose your son's name.
Big hugs!0 -
Tracey - sad news about your nan. Take comfort in that she knew you would be having a son and she got to name him . . . what an amazing tribute.
perhaps you could carry something of hers on your wedding day . . . wear her earrings? or another piece of jewellery? I have put a brooch my nan left me years ago into my button bouquet so i know she'll be there with me!0
