    Hi everyone!

Well slightly non wedding related first of all,
    ****WARNING****
Never make a reverse charges phone call by ringing the operator through BT.
When OH was away with Cadets (can't remember if I said this at the time) his account was used fraudulently and some criminal cleared over a grand out of his bank account. He was in the middle of Norfolk with no mobile phone signal and no money so he reversed the charges to me to let me know what had happened (as I was expecting his rent money into my account).
I've just had my BT bill today and that call, which lasted 8minutes and 8 seconds, cost £35.60 :eek::mad::eek::mad::eek:

I am soooooo angry, just got of the phone to BT (wish I'd rang the operator and reversed the charges to them ) and they said it cost that much because when the operator puts you through its a premium rate number and they won't refund anything because the operator asks if you are prepared to accept the charges. Well I was expecting it to be like a pound a minute or something, not £4 effing 50!

    ****RANT OVER*****

Hope you've all had a good day anyway, I was back at work which was nice to be back in a routine - not so nice in that my room was a total mess because all the builders have been using it as a dumping ground so you could hardly breathe for the dust and I spent most of the day cleaning instead of prepping for when the kids come back on Thursday.

Liking the funny readings you've found, quite a good idea to have something to make people laugh.

Fab news about your venue Michelle, you know it's all happening when the cash comes out!

Right, I'm off to analyse some exam results - love how I'm expected to explain what more I could have done to help some of my students didn't meet their target grades: explaining that they were a little sh*ts who did no work all year and who's parent sent me a stroppy letter telling me that NO, they would not be attending my detentions to catch up just doesn't cut it apparently.

AAAAAHHHH can't you just tell I'm back at work! What holiday.... :rotfl:

Oh Mel - so sorry to hear about the reverse charges with BT that really sucks!! :( Especially when that money could have gone towards a weddingy thing!! :(
And grrrr that was why I hated teaching secondary maths - the unrealistic expectations of getting everyone to pass. I mean - governments/ofstead/heads all want your results to be 100%, but if they were 100% the rest of the world would start shouting at how the exams were getting easier - blah blah blah. There is no pleasing people!! You have my every sympathy. I'm lucky in that we do all our number crunching on a termly basis and get it all done before we break up for the term's holiday. So all my 'justifications' were made at the end of the term, so hopefully when I go back on Monday I can focus on the term ahead rather than the previous term... hopefully!! Although I'm sure my team leader will want to dig up old crap and want to know what we're doing about one school... joy.

I do like the idea of having something less 'heavy' for a reading to go with the hands one - but I can't see anything I like or that would actually go with the ceremony if you see what I mean.
  • Mel- how much pf a rip of is that- that isnt premium rate- its taking the p*** rate. It doesnt sound like youve had the best day.

Natalie- Im sure you will find something, you have plenty of time- why not start a thread, Im sure people will be able to help.

I was thinking about starting a thread lol but I'm enjoying wasting hours googling love/marriage/wedding poems/prose/readings :D
  • love the poems! Not an area I had thought of. . . . something else to add to my list. H2B will be pleased (not).

I finally spoke to the wedding co ordinator at the hotel today as she went on a 3 week holiday when our last appointment was due. I have finalised the booking and she asked for payment to secure the date so i had to pay that today. So i can officially say the venue is booked and paid for. yay!! However we have can't have the evening 'Cheese cake' with crackers etc that i was planning as they wont allow another company to provide the cheese and bits :( they offered to do it all for a further £6.00 a head. With 100 evening guests that would be a further £600 for nibbles. Perhaps i'm being tight but after hire of reception venue and then nearly £1,000 for the breakfast and then the wine or corkage on top of that i've had to draw a line.

So that means we will have our wedding breakfast at about 5pm with 30 guests and then just the wedding cake with the further 70 evening guests. Do you think that would be ok?? Will they expect food?? Is it rude not to offer food to evening guests?? ooohhh i don't know what to do to be right!

Thanks for the advice on RSVP dates. The venue have asked for exact numbers of day guests 21 days prior so i shall work it all round those dates and send out the invites during Feb half term.

I know I about had a heart attack when I opened the bill! Bleddy robbing b'tards!

Ah so lucky - we can do most of ours but obv the big one is the GCSE results which we have to wait for. I just kinda resent being blamed for the fact that these kids are 15 years old and therefore probably won't go home and do any revision, so it doesn't matter how many catch up sessions, homeworks, feedback meetings, post-it notes, mock exams etc etc etc I have done - some of them just don't give a toss!

Haha what was that quote from some government guy "we want every student to be above average" :p just goes to show!

I have done one groups worth of analysis now. That was my small group. 3 more to go. *Sob*

Mmm would evening guests expect some grub? I think it would depend on when they are arriving - if you are inviting them from say 9pm then no - as a guest I'd treat it like a night on the tiles - eat before I go... but if you're asking them from say 6pmish then I may want something to nibble on. It's horrid isn't it - all this planning!! A question about your wedding cake of cheese - I appreciate them not wanting outside caterers coming in, but are they providing your regular wedding cake? Or are you allowed to use a 'normal' bakery for your cakey cake? If so I would argue they are being well hypocritical (this isn't the word I'm after but I can't think of the one I want). With a normal wedding cake they'd have to cut it up for you to distribute to your guests, I don't see how that is different to a cake made of cheese. Maybe take this up with them?
  • Melanie- I think its ok not to provide food in the evening, but I think you should tell people so they can eat before they come. If you did decide to provide food you wouldnt need to cater for everyone- ie the 30 day guests shouldnt be that hungry so you could maybe get away with say catering for 15- then maybe 50-60 of the evening guests (depending on if they are all adults then maybe 60, if there is some children or people you know with small appetites maybe only 50).:jOn booking the venue.

Absolutely agree with Emma - of course it makes perfect sense!! At the end of the day there is no should/musts about weddings - why is the evening food any different!! You do what you want to do - and let everyone know :) That way there won't be any surprises :D
