I'm back with lovely vibrant hair lol. MrD and I have agreed we can't afford finance at the moment. So we are going to suck our bellies in and pay the immediate expense of around £1500. Far cheaper than getting into £9k worth of debt. Especially with a) the house needing loads still doing to it - we should have central heating this weekend, but then there is the plastering, decorating, furnishing (we have yet to buy a single piece of furniture in 7 years), the bathroom(s), and the kitchen to do. b) The wedding (yay) and c) the honeymoon (even bigger yay). I'm happy with this decision. We've said if we can make this car last us for another 2 years then we'll consider getting a new car.
I have had a lovely day though. Seen one of my closest friends and offloaded to her (lol interpret that as ranting), and had lots of wedding chats with her - lol I was ranting about how much some people are willing to pay for things. Then went to the hair dressers and she was asking about how the wedding plans were coming along - so got to repeat myself there. It was lovely!!
So I'm sat here feeling like a huge weight has been lifted (cause we've made a decision).
How is all your days going?
(PS If you see me on here tomorrow lol, please do not talk to me I really *MUST* get some OU work done!)0 -
I think from what youve said this idea suits you and your financail situation and makes more sense for you. We are hoping out cars last up until at least after the wedding to give us a bit of time to save, or if we did have finance it wouldnt be bad for us after the wedding.
SOunds like youve had a great day though- with loads of wedding talk. :j
I really must remember to send my photographers contract back! Think ill make that my mission for tomorrow!0 -
That's exactly what we said tonight - after the wedding (and more importantly the honeymoon as that is going to be the big expense lol) we'll have more deposable income to put onto finance. Besides - I don't actually know what is going to happen with my job - whether the council are going to be cutting support services or not. So really isn't not the greatest of time to be entering into a long term debt. On the plus side though it really has helped focus me on the whole wedding dress thing. I am not spending a fortune on that when there are other things the money could be spent on. (Similarly if my mum does end up paying for it I don't want her to pay for something as frivolous as a wedding dress).
Lol yes you MUST get your contract sent off!! Has your photographer got a website we can have a nosy at? I can't remember whose it was - someone on another thread put a link to their photographers blog of their wedding. (She wore a white dress with red trim, and fabulous red shoes). Her photos *almost* made me think about getting a professional to do our photos!0 -
I look at all the expensive and think 'oh wow that dress is amazing', but I could never spend such a large amount of money on my dress (and I do look at my dress and think its amazing and it makes it even better that it was a bargain!!). Like I was talking to someone at work today whose daughter is getting married and theyve just order her dress and it was £1000, I personally just couldnt spend that- I think of all the other things I could buy myself for that money!! (but i do understand why people spend it!!)
Oh I saw those photos- they were amazing. My photographer does more of the tradtional poses, but his photos are good. Ill have to find his site, i found him on here on the thread for photographers under £500, i didnt think we could afford a photographer until we found him, as he is willing to do just a few hrs- which is perfect for our needs.0 -
evening all,
I have just met with a wedding photographer who I really like. Just have to work out which package to go for. They are
Single Location Package - £450
Our famous single location package is ideal for those on a budget and includes a Deluxe album with 30 prints of your choice and a DVD of all your photographs taken on the day. Your photographer will arrive in time to photograph the guys waiting for the bride, the service, signing the register, the group photographs and all the romantic photographs you want. Second locations a pleasure.
That one will cover the ceremony and start of reception
Deluxe Package - £995
The Deluxe package includes two locations (such as the church and the reception). You get all your photographs burnt to a DVD and can distribute and print the photographs without further charge from us. You also get a Deluxe album with 30 prints of your choice, and two matching Deluxe Parent albums each with 10 prints of your choice.
This will cover photos of me getting ready as well as ceremony and reception. Also includes two photographers for the whole day
decisions to be made0 -
Lol I wonder how much it'd cost to have a photographer for 30 mins at the registry office.... no best not answer that lol what I don't know can't hurt me (ie I won't begin thinking about it and seeing if we can afford it lol).0

Not sure if I could go for the second package, double the cost for 1 extra part of the day. Think I may go for the first one and if I want pictures of me getting ready can get my Mum to do it. As we will have copyright can make up parent albums ourself but cheaper0

See.... I don't 'do' photos. BUT if I did, and if I was going to have a formal photographer - AND I could afford it I would want someone to capture every moment of the day.
When I go on holiday - I generally don't take any photos of MrD or me. I take photos of everything else, from the places we go, the places we eat, the car we hire, even the toilet. And I save EVERYTHING, the bording cards, all receipts, everything, and I make a scrap book when I get home.
I *think* I'd do the same for the wedding - I would want things so when I look back at them I can remember the whole thing from the moment I woke up to the moment I go to bed... so for me I think I'd have the deluxe package... but only if my budget could stretch that far (lol note that price is nearly half of my planned budget).
BUT that being said - the bits like you getting ready - could anyone else take those photos?
Things like photos of your shoes, the rings etc, you could do yourself (if you're any good with a camera) prior to the day. (That's what I plan on doing... all the pretty things like the bouquet etc - staging them against a lovely backdrop and taking photos myself for printing).
I'm waffling aren't I?! And I'm not sure I'm helping you make any decision lol.
I think - if you can afford it - do it.
But only if you can afford it. There are plenty of other ways to capture your day.0 -
Lol we keep crossing posts tfutcher!0

That what I am thinking, even though we have budgeted £1000 for the photographer I have gone over the budget on other things. The prob is its a large wedding party (100 people for the main meal) which is where the majority of the budget has gone.
I think I will be happy with the first one and then take my own photos leading up to the ceremony. I also think having someone I dont know taking photos might ruin the getting ready part.
Still not sure though xx0
