July 2012 Brides and Grooms

Well I have taken my 'non-engagement' ring into two independent local jewellers and they have told me my ring is not a k... but is infact a k.5!! Stupid HSamuels telling me it's a K! (Am in two minds whether to write them a snotty email asking for a refund of the cost to return the ring back to the weddingringspecialist). But thankfully the guy (Steve) at weddingringspecialist is super helpful and I'm just about to go take my ring to the post office to get sent back to him.
He was impressed (happy?) that our wedding isn't until next July - he said it's surprising the number of people who buy wedding rings online the week before their weddings and then panic when things like this happen.
And I've taken my spoon and fork to get engraved - go to pick them up on Wednesday - cannot wait!!(No idea how much that will be - didn't ask - lol don't care - lol it can be my one extravagance - lol not including my dress).
Oh and I got two front door keys cutDone one load of washing - that's out on the line, and got another one literally finished in the washing machine as I typed this sentence. A woman's work is never done! Have had a fruitful morning so far!
Mrs Drink I am glad the rinbg issue has been sorted. I am getting mine checked by another jeweller in a couple of weeks as it feels way too big and keeps slipping right round. I have found the jeweller nice but I just don't think it's the size they claim!
Still gathering the Vistaprint free things and just building them up as they go. I got a tote bag last week with 'Bride' written on it for just the postage and will get ones for my mum and bridesmaids as they come up. As soon as I am allowed post pics (still a 'newbie) I will for you guys to see.
Got 40 Thank you notes so far for around 10 pounds when you add up the postage. We're using the free postacrds for the invites, getting the nice recycled matte finish paper and buyting matching envelopes... all in will be about 25 quid! Much better than the fortune I was quoted everywhere else!
I'll use the free flyers for the order of service and for menus and the free business cards as placecards! So I'll have 180 left over, oh well! ha ha.
Just paid the deposit on 2 holiday flats for my family to stay in for the week of the wedding. And I am sending the photographers deposit today! Got a good deal as she was willing to negotiate because we wouldn't be using a lot of the package she offered and a discount for booking by a certain date.
So far my "projected budget" to "actual spending" comparative spreadsheet is looking healthy!
:jSeeking the champagne lifestyle on a cider budget!

Hi everyone
Natalie, I would deffo send an email to HSamuel, it was them that caused you to have to send it back! It's worth a try! Haha your comment about the bolero/solero yesterday prompted me to go out and buy one (the ice lolly I mean) did you know they are only 90 calories each? Bargain!
I think I will keep an eye on the monsoon dresses, we did look in there the other day but the dresses all looked a bit scruffy - I think I will have to try them on in store then order online to get a 'fresh' one. And 5% cashback from Topcashback haha.
My nan has dug out my mum's old veil and it's still perfect, so if I decide to have a veil I will probably use that one. I couldn't believe how much they were in the bridal shops, I can understand the mega prices for dresses but the veils? Seriously you could go to Dunelms and buy some curtain netting and just edge it and stitch it to a hairclip!
Well done for getting balloons sorted out Laura
Right - my cheapskate head is also thinking of having Bonsai trees rather than flowers as decorations on the tables - my dad grows them so it wouldn't cost anything except for buying some table runners - was thinking something like this one (2nd picture down, hopefully)
It would avoid me having to have flowers on the tables too, but does it look a bit stupid?

That's a good idea about using the business cards as placecards!

LauraL- what balloons are you having?
Roll on the 8th when we give notice!!
We are having 8table decorations of 3 balloons, 2head table of 3 balloons(so one each end), balloon arch for behind the top table, 2 floor standing arrangements and a gaint exploding balloon!
Natalie i would write them an email you never know what could happen!
Workinginoz good idea about the cards - i think i need to try vistaprint - never been on it before!
We have booked to give notice Friday 12th August - after ringing two numbers and being on hold for ages!
Now do i go out and enjoy the sun or have a play with invitations!!0 -
Hahaha I have just looked up to check that we don't need to give notice because of the church thing, and found this list on the Citizens Advice website that tells you who you are and aren't allowed to marry! Seriously, do people really need advice to tell them that you can't marry your own father/brother! Lol!

Well that is all my errands run
Just housework and washing to do. (Oh and then there is the matter of the small 3000 word assignment I was supposed to start today). I'm so bad though - I can't be bothered to tidy the lounge (Bun's shredded paper is everywhere lol) but I hate doing work in a messy house.
OzMel - it is a nightmare isn't it - this whole finding the perfect ring!! I actually like my rings to be slightly loose - which is why it's a nightmare to try any on at the moment cause my fingers are so swollen from the bad eating I've done and this heat (although I'm not complaining about the latter). Still my wedding ring will be with me soon and it'll be all shiny and lovely and I will want to keep practicing putting it on. Ha!! One thing I have noticed though - how dull my 'non-engagement' ring looks compared to the shininess of the wedding ring. Depending on our budget but I may just have to get it rhodium plated before the big day so they can both sit on my finger looking fabVery excited!! Lol I even dreamt about rings last night - I dreamt that MrD wanted an 18ct white gold Heavy D ring the same as mine - but in a thicker band and I was getting really huffy about the fact it was going to cost more than mine :rotfl:.
It does sound like you've got loads sorted OzMel!
Mel - sorry for encouraging you to buy a solero!! As for the dresses in Monsoon looking scruffy. I don't know about where you are or what day you went in, but I'm finding Monsoon really scruffy in general at the moment while the sales are on. They remind me more like a next sale store than a Monsoon store (cor what a snob I am lol). I would say wait till the sales are off - go try a dress on in store, then either buy it online, or even better wait till it's the Christmas sales and buy it then onlineBUT that being said - they do free postal returns so you could buy them online, try them on in the comfort of your own home, and then return them. This thread says it has a 10% code, and you get free delivery on orders over £50.
Lol I'm naughty aren't I?! Encouraging you to spend spend spend!
I think bonsai trees would look fab - especially as you say your dad grows them so it's bringing in the personal touch. You could also integrate more of nature/the outdoors into your theme.
Lol just done a quick google and I think these look fabulous!!
Right off to go pen a letter to HSamuels!0 -
Okay have sent a complaint to HSamuel's using their online contact form - can't do any harm!
LauraL - I am such a wuss - I would hate an exploding balloon lol - I felt super brave today just staying in the shop while I got my keys cut while I was waiting!! (I hate loud noises).
Lol Mel - stranger things have happened!0 -
Natalie, oh- now i see why your status said about being a brave girl! Oh how annoying about your ring, ive had a few jewellers size mine up and they have all said an L, and when i was at goldsmiths they have a sizer thing for you to try on so you make sure you get the right size- and this came back an L aswell so fingers crossed I really am an L! Have you given notice? I must ring up and check what time im booked in for next week!
Youve all been a chatty bunch today!!
MelOz- soulds like youve been very busy- and well dont on all the vistaprint bargains! I must have a look on there one day!!
Mel- I think bonsai trees would look fab. Im sure someone else on this thread got a monsoon dress and got it delivered and so it came brand new and not scruffy.
Im so going to laugh when we give notice and they ask if we are brother and sister- just the childish part of me will be chuckling!0 -
Our appointment is at 3:45 - I'm picking MrD up from his job at 3:30...lol I'm keeping myself busy (and avoiding my OU assignment in the process) by doing lots of houseworky type jobs. I have found MrD's passport so that is a relief. I will let you know how it all goes as soon as I get back!
You are right!! Another July 2012 bride has got a dress from Monsoon - was it Tracy? If so she's away on hols/camp at the moment - but I'm sure when she comes back, Mel, she'll happily tell you how great her dress is0 -
Just been onto the wedding ring specialist's website and my ring is now just under £15 more - hurrah!! :T
Oh and there is a similar ring on Amazon for £276.99 (RRP=£472.64!!!) I paid £146.810
